A summary
Outdoor Pursuits 16 Hour First Aid Level 3 (VTQ) training is an industry-specific two-day (16hr) Outdoor First Aid Training for Forest School Leaders, Outdoor Coaches, and Outdoor Education and Adventure professionals, e.g., DofE Expedition Leaders, Outward Bounds, Guiding/ Scouting, and Youth Leaders. This training covers the Institute for Outdoor Learning Outdoor First Aid Band 3 requirements and Emergency Paediatric First Aid. It equips you to deal with incidents in woodland and countryside settings, which are often remote—meaning 30 minutes or more from safety. ProTraining validates the training, which is valid for three years. Part of the training will happen indoors in a modern teaching space with scenarios outdoors in a woodland Forest School setting, in all weathers. Please dress accordingly. Our trainer, Brendan Goswell, is a knowledgeable and experienced outdoor pursuits instructor with many years of experience working with vulnerable client groups in a therapeutic context as part of the Riverside Centre team in Oxford. All national outdoor governing bodies recognise the training course.

Course Tutor
We are delighted to work with Brendan Goswell to deliver industry-relevant First Aid training. His love of the outdoors and his insatiable appetite for learning and teaching are reflected in his list of accreditations. The most recent one was APIOL, which he achieved during lockdown. He is a qualified mountain leader, rock climbing instructor, and mountain bike instructor. He holds qualifications to coach paddleboarding, kayaking and canoeing and has worked as ‘safety and rescue’ for triathlons and big swims. Brendan is waiting to receive his Level 3 Forest School leader accreditation. Brendan has taught First Aid to outdoor and early years practitioners for over twelve years; he teaches First Aid to Scouts and DofE students. Brendan works for Oxfordshire County Council, providing alternative curricula for young people on the edge of care.
