A SUMMARY

This is a playful hands on discovery workshop exploring textile material properties with the assistance of fire and water. If you ever wondered: Why synthetics are used for sports clothes or why viscose pulls out of shape in the wash, come learn the answers with us and entertain your inner pyro in the process. This workshop is for those 12 years and over including adults.

About your Mentor

About your Mentor

Claire

I am a weaving consultant, weaving teacher and woven textile artist. I qualified with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Science and Handloom Weaving from The Swedish School of Textiles in 2009 and have since then been developing my own practice in the field of art and weave design. I’ve developed courses in basic and advanced weaving, draft construction and textile material and have refined them for a range of different audiences through my years of teaching experience. My passion is to spread the joy of weaving to others and always to be learning something myself. In my spare time, I enjoy playing music, learning crafts and languages.

Learning aims

Determine the four main categories of fibre.

Strengths to develop

You can tell a lot about a fibre from its feel. You'll be developing your sensitivity to sights, smells, sounds and touch through an interdisciplinary approach to determining fibre content. You'll be handing fire so fine motor skills and ability to focus will be in focus.
