A SUMMARY
In association with the Brighton Science Festival, this hands on making and playing sound sculptures workshop is run with specially prepared sets of pipes designed from years of using recycled industrial and domestic tubes from gas and water to all-sorts of plumbing parts. They have been modified with various different multiple hole sizes so that they can easily fit together giving children and adults the opportunity to build big colourful structures (a bit like giant KNEX). Participants are helped to explore different designs working in groups or on their own. There are many different sounding parts that can be added. These include bike wheels for clicking sounds ,whistles and pumps, and tuned metal and wooden percussion. Sculptural towers then become sound sculptures and groups are encouraged to work on a small piece of structured or free form music using their self designed instruments. This workshop lets children explore their lateral thinking and offers them a chance to work as a team on building something big and experiment with sound. (The Sculptures are not for keeping)
About your mentor

Love music love life
I am a passionate musician, sculptor, builder and teacher! I love helping people have fun and unleash their creativity whilst learning. I have worked with many community groups and schools over the years to design unique interactive and fun sound sculptures. Having over thirty permanent musical sculpture installations in public parks and school play areas across the UK, I have found a variety of ways to make robust and good sounding harmonic instruments.
