A summary
Join The Bright Foundation at their Barn Theatre and Museum in rural Hastings for a week-long creative adventure working with the fabulous Long Nose Puppets! This is a wonderful introduction to puppetry from an award-winning and critically acclaimed professional puppet company. Develop your skills in puppetry, performance, art, and design. At the end of the week there will be a performance to families and friends. About Long Nose Puppets Long Nose was co-founded in 2006 by Katherine Morton and well-known children’s author and illustrator Polly Dunbar. Katherine and Polly make the puppets out of anything and everything: latex, wood, found objects, socks, old umbrellas and the odd lampshade. The puppets range in size from handheld rod puppets to full body costumes. The company works with a company of musicians , performers and makers to create their fun filled shows. This project will be lead by Long Nose puppeteers Annie Brooks, Lisa Mills, and Sophie Ellen Powell, who between them have a wealth of experience creating shows.
About your mentors
The Bright Foundation
Inspiring young minds through the arts
The Bright Foundation is an arts education charity founded by Academy Award winning costume designer John Bright. They offer a programme of life enhancing creative learning to children and young people, particularly those experiencing disadvantage. The programme includes school visits, summer schools, performance projects, cross-curricular learning, wellbeing retreats, volunteering, family festivals, skills training, and career support. The Barn Theatre and Museum is set in 24 acres in a rural location just outside Hastings. The Barn Theatre is a 50 seat children’s theatre and workshop studio that presents inspirational puppet shows and theatre productions to children, young people and their families. The adjoining museum showcases John Bright’s personal collection of period toys, puppets and theatre sets dating from the 18th century to the present day. The Benbow Arts Space (opening Summer 2024) in St Leonards-on-Sea offers a programme to support young people to pursue their training and career ambitions, inspired by a permanent History of Cinema Exhibition.
