A SUMMARY
Aimed at the beginner, this course will teach you the basic skills of green woodworking. Starting with a log, you will learn using traditional tools how to craft it into a unique and functional piece of furniture without the need for any glue, nails or screws. The whole process takes 2 ½ days and is an enjoyable and therapeutic experience resulting in the confidence to be able to go on to make your own designs from green (unseasoned) wood.

When your mentor provides a strapline it will go here
I originally learned green woodworking whilst being filmed for the BBC series ‘Mastercrafts’ in 2009. I spent six wonderful weeks deep in a Dorset woodland being taught by a master craftsman which became a life changing event as I had been completely seduced by the idea of living in a cabin in the woods, and growing or making everything I needed. The seed had been planted for Forest Garden Shovelstrode and my new found skills were invaluable in our initial building stages. I have been teaching green woodworking at Forest Garden Shovelstrode for 10 years. I’ve taught many people with different abilities who have all proudly made a beautiful green wood stool. Becoming a green woodworker has been invaluable in managing our own woodland, and for my other role as 'Maintenance Man’ for Forest Garden Shovelstrode! When time permits I also enjoy making furniture and other products which we sell in our Forest Garden shop and at local markets. I teach small groups of up to only 5 people in order to give the individual attention required.
