This is an 8-week secular and evidence-based Woodland Mindfulness Course (MBSR/MBCT), teaching mindfulness techniques in weekly 2-hour sessions in a beautiful woodland setting. Throughout the course, participants will be given the opportunity to learn a combination of traditional meditation techniques, cognitive behavioural therapy exercises, and chi gong, as well as learning about the physiology of the brain and the effects that stress has on the body and mind. Activities are based around an open fire and followed up with an opportunity to talk about experiences. Some of the practices are done in a lying position but can be adapted to suit individual needs. All activities are invitational. Practicing mindfulness in a woodland setting can help to enhance our sensory skills through immersion in nature. I've been practicing Mindfulness Meditation for the last 5 years. When I was introduced to the practice I was dealing with a lot of stress and lowered mood. Mindfulness gave me techniques to handle my stress in a more workable way. Having a Mindfulness practice will not stop bad things happening to you, or give you everlasting happiness, but what I will say is, with practice, it helped me navigate stress and difficulties more skilfully with a clearer frame of mind which also helped me make the transition through these periods smoother and quicker. I completed my mindfulness teacher training with the NHS at the Sussex Mindfulness Centre in Brighton (SMC). I chose to train at SMC as it recognised as one of the top three mindfulness training centres in the country. I work in collaboration with Project Rewild (CIC) running secular based 8-week woodland mindfulness courses in Hastings throughout the year.
