A summary
Our children and young people benefit greatly from partaking in activities outdoors. We successfully run forestry skills and sports sessions at the Bushy Wood scout camp in Hailsham. Children can enjoy forestry activities, sports and cooking around the campfire. Parents also attend, but there are a high number of staff to support the children and young people with all the activities. This takes place at 12-3pm every other Saturday. For the first hour of this activity children can participate in a variety of short duration sports activities which are carefully tailored to suit needs and ability. If there are lots of younger ones, we split off into two groups, otherwise we work together as one big group in the large grassy arena surrounded by trees. Following this, there is a lunch break (please bring a packed lunch and something to drink). We then move round to the campfire area, where there is the opportunity for our children and young people to take part in lots of forestry school activities such as cooking over the campfire, making dens, painting etc. We finish this session around the campfire for singing and dancing! This session is great fun and thoroughly enjoyed by children and parents! Please bring suitable footwear as it can get muddy, and warm, waterproof clothing in the winter months and sunscreen and sun hats when the weather is warmer.
