What we'll do
The Earthwake staff facilitate a huge range of activities during their activity days, allowing the children freedom and choice. We are flexible and adaptable and encourage the children to try new things, become involved, work as teams and learn from everyone present. Our summer sessions will be very child-led, but can include: tool use, den building, fire lighting, green woodworking, natural arts and crafts, mosaic making, invertebrate hunting, pond dipping, cooking and eating together. Lunch and snacks will be provided - we offer variety and choice. If the weather and group allows, we will cook over a fire, or provide hot food by cooking on camping gas stoves. Healthy eating and trying new foods is encouraged, in a very gentle and sensitive way. We will think about the wildlife around us, with a focus on insects, as we explore what lives in the grounds and in the pond. We encourage enjoyment of being together, outside. Earthwake is an outdoor learning provider, running environmental outdoor clubs and programmes for local communities in Bungay and the Waveney area. We are passionate about wildlife, nature, sustainability, healthy living and connecting local people with their local wild spaces. Lorna and Katherine have many years of experience, both are first aid trained and have a level 3 Forest School qualification. They work regularly with a number of the local primary schools. This day is suitable for children who do not need one-to-one support, who can manage in a play setting with a typical ratio of one supervising adult to eight children. We are not generally able to support children who have a history of leaving a supervised setting without permission, due to the open nature and large accessible area within the setting. If you are unsure about whether your child's needs can be met in this setting, please contact us in advance to discuss further. We do our utmost to be inclusive and accessible, and may be able to bring in additional staff to meet additional needs.
