A SUMMARY
Know oh brother that the study of sensible geometry leads to skill in all practical arts while the study of intelligible geometry leads to skill in the intellectual arts because this science is one of the gates through which we move to the knowledge of the essence of the soul and that is the root of knowledge. - the Rasail of Ikhwan el Safa Medieval Iran reveals some of the most beautiful wonders of Islamic art and architecture. These wonders mostly emerged during the Safavid dynasty, when Isfahan was the capital city of Persia. The Persian architecture from the 1500s to the 1800s featured beautiful polychrome tiles of blue, gold, turquoise, and white cover the interiors of mosques and palaces, in the forms of complicated floral and geometric patterns as well as the Arabic calligraphy quoting verses from the Quran. The marvellous architecture that arose in this time remains up to this day a sight to behold. It transcends you to the heavens with its otherworldly charm. Explore the geometric genius of the Persian master-craftsmen in this two-day course. Learn the art of compass and straightedge construction and create a dazzling portfolio of geometric patterns from the Persian tradition. -------------------------------------------------------- "A brilliant course so clearly and patiently taught. Such a lovely few days and plenty to work with after the course. Totally inspiring!" Patricia Gidney (UK) January 2017 Persian Patterns course participant My words are truly inadequate to express the way I feel about the Course, your work, your studio ... within seconds of walking through the door my eyes welled up with tears of utter heartfelt Joy so struck by the beauty, grace & feeling contained within the images that adorned the walls. It felt like a coming home, something in me recognised something in them & it felt like coming home. Its been a mind blowing & momentous 3 days of discovery, initiation & finding my way back into a world so expansive yet containing filled with love, grace, spiritual connection & beauty ... I cannot believe how much Ive discovered not only about myself but about the universe all contained within these works each one a portal of information within which one can choose to enter or observe while constructing. Extraordinary, inspiring ... I truly cannot wait until I return.
