Academic Music Home Study Programme
Mentored by Theodore Franks
For ages: 8 - 11 years
A SUMMARY
I am offering to teach the academic curriculum of music to KS2 children in their own homes. As well as increasing confidence with playing and performing using voices and musical instruments, we will be covering a wide range of skills and knowledge about global music across the centuries. In a small group setting, children will practise the techniques of playing music in solo and ensemble contexts, and we will focus on developing accuracy, fluency, control and expression. Skills of improvisation will be covered, and we will look at composing music of different styles and genres, using appropriate technologies and instruments. The technical skills of reading staff notations will be introduced, and an appreciation of a wide range of music drawn from different traditions will be gained. Through listening with attention, learners will develop an understanding of the history of music and begin to evaluate musical choices across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions. ...
