What we'll do
Join us to walk a section of the Anglesey coastal path, for an introdution to multi day hiking. There is something about the island of Anglesey in Wales that cannot be named. With the mountains of Snowdonia visible as a backdrop to the island, with a deep history that has left it's imprint on the land and the spectacular coastal scenary, it's a special place and hiking the whole 210km/130mile Anglesey Coastal Path which circumnavigates the island is a brilliant way to explore it. On this hiking and camping adventure, we will be hiking a section of the coastal path over three days, a total of around 47km. We will walk 15-18km per day (4-5.5 hours per day), each carrying our own camping kit, food and clothing, and taking in the beautiful sandy bays, the isolated coves, the villages, the sea cliffs and wildlife along the way. This adventure is perfect if you would like to get a taster for multi day hiking and we will share lots of tips and advice ahead of time and along the way on everything from how to get started, what to pack, different trails available, planning and preparation and how to take care of yourself along the way. This adventure is also suitable if you would like to test out your gear or get some hiking days in before a future trip you have planned or maybe you just want to enjoy time in nature and walking in this stunning place with a supportive and inclusive team. Whatever your motivation, you will find a warm welcome with us. We will be led each day by our own qualified Mountain Leader, Nic Bennett (although we don't intend to actually be walking up any big mountains on this trip!). Nic has a passion for long distance walking and has completed a lot of trails in the UK and abroad so has plenty of tips and advice to share. The schedule: Saturday - We'll meet at Holyhead Train Station mid morning, before getting the train together to Rhosneigr. - We will hike 17km to Silver Bay, which should take approx 5-6 hours, plus we'll allow plenty of time for breaks and taking in the view. This stretch of coastline is Anglesey's own Surfers Paradise, and we'll take in beaches such as Rhosneigr and Cymyran. - We will arrive on foot at our first campsite for the night, pitch up, have some food and settle in for the night. Sunday - Enjoying breakfast at the campsite, before packing up ready to take on the next section. - Today's hike from Silver Bay to Penrhosfeilw will be approx 16km, allowing around 5 hours plus plenty of breaks. On this section we'll walk along Borthwen beach, and take in the rugged coastal landscape and unusual rock formations. - We will arrive on foot at our next campsite, pitch up, have some food and settle in for the night and a well earned rest. Monday - We will be starting out earlier on our final day, aiming to return to our vehicles in Holyhead in good time. So we'll start with an early breakfast at the campsite, before packing up ready for our final stage of the journey. - Today's hike from Penrhosfeilw to Holyhead station will be approx 15km, allowing 5 hours for walking plus plenty of breaks. This is probably the most attractive part of the coastal path rising up Holyhead Mountain (summit 220m), with abundant wild and unspoilt landscapes. - There'll be an option for our group to visit South Stacks Lighthouse on this section, set in spectacular location to the North-west of Holyhead. (Additional cost of approx £10 per person to visit, not included in the ticket price) - Ideally we'll be arriving back at Holyhead Station on foot by around 3pm, ready to say our goodbyes. The campsites will be basic, with showers and toilet facilities available. Remember we will each be required to carry our own rucksack and camping equipment for the three days. You will be provided with a full kit list ahead of time and we'll be encouraging you to travel as light as possible! A good level of fitness is required. The days hiking will be long. We'll be covering a good distance each day, along undulating hills with some ascents during the cliff sections, and you'll be expected to carry all your camping kit, clothing, water and food for the duration of the weekend. We hope you can join us on this special adventure! "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together" Notes and Cancellation: * LHW are a not-for-profit Community Interest Company that focuses on keeping pricing as low and accessible as possible and so our events are run at cost price. Due to this, bookings for this event are non-refundable and non-transferrable. * Please note that specific hiking routes are weather dependent and we reserve the right to offer an alternative option in the event of unsuitable weather conditions such as storm conditions.
