What we'll do
“Wulf in the Woods” is a new venture for children in Reception - Year 5 to play and explore in the woods behind St Wulfran’s Church. The aim is to help children foster a love of and connection to nature through games, songs, woodland activities and crafts. Guided by adult mentors, the emphasis is on multi-sensory child-led outdoor play, proven to encourage stimulation, curiosity and absorption. Activities include crafts, mud kitchen, den building, low ropes, and a range of bushcraft activities led by the mentors. Children learn to assess risk, take on challenges and accept responsibility. Children develop a wide variety of skills, both practical and interpersonal, by learning to look after themselves, each other, and the environment. “Wulf in the Woods” has the potential to bring a huge benefit to our community, with children and their families becoming more active in their care and enjoyment of our wonderful countryside. Wulf in the Woods is co-led by Julia Sands - an expedition leader, teacher and wilderness educator, and Miranda Pellew - a qualified Level 3 Forest School practitioner who has also spent many years teaching. Both mentors are trained in Outdoor First Aid and Pediatric First Aid. We are running our next 6-week programme in Autumn 2024, on Saturday afternoons 2-4pm, for which places are available at £2 donation.
