Are you a parent or an Early Childhood Practitioner? Do you want to learn more about holistic approaches to Childcare? Join Early Childhood experts Dorothy Marlen and Sam Greshoff for a series of Saturday Workshops exploring holistic childcare. Each workshop will be a stimulating mix of new theories and ideas, experiential group work, and practical, creative activities. The workshops are designed for both Early Childhood Practitioners and parents with a particular interest in the birth to 3 age group. They provide a unique CPD opportunity and practical learning for all SAT, 15 FEB - In Their Own time SAT, 9 MAY - Tell Me a Story SAT, 6 JUN - The Natural World SAT, 4 JUL - Child Wellbeing & Digital Media __________________________________________________ In Their Own Time - 15th of February 2020. Learn the importance of Parent and Child and Parent and Baby groups for those critical first years of life. Find out how to provide appropriate childcare spaces to encourage relationship and naturally healthy physical movement and play. Learn how to support parents to recognise their child's innate competence which is the foundation of long-term core resilience and self-esteem. __________________________________________________ Tell me a Story - 9th of May 2020 How can storytelling and puppetry support the youngest children in families and early childhood settings? What stories are needed for these challenging times? Learn the importance of stories for care and wellbeing of young children. Explore the healing and therapeutic properties of storytelling. Learn how to develop your confidence in the art of storytelling. __________________________________________________ The Natural World - 6th of June 2020 The natural world is the child's natural home: Explore the benefits of outdoor childcare. Models and approaches of holistic outdoor care for young children that work in a variety of different early childhood settings. Understand what is necessary and also what is unnecessary in Early Childhood provision in order to ensure that children truly experience the natural world. __________________________________________________ Child Wellbeing & Digital Media - 4th of July 2020 What are the challenges of digital media for children and parents? Explore ways to ensure children's wellbeing with the increasing challenges of digital media. Understand how to create health-giving spaces for children and support parents.

Dorothy Marlen Dorothy is an Early Childhood Expert, Teacher, Mentor and Counsellor with over 20 years’ experience of working with parents and carers of very young children. She is the course leader of the Holistic Baby and Child Care (EYE)* at Emerson College UK and the author of The Parent and Child Group Handbook published by Hawthorn Press and articles on Holistic Childcare for many journals and magazines. She originally trained as a Steiner Early Years teacher and then went on to study the Pikler approach at the Pikler Institute in Budapest, at Resources for Infant Educarers in the USA, and in Psychoanalytic Child Observation at the Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy. These trainings helped to bring new depth and sensitivity to her understanding of the needs of the very young child. From 2012-2014 Dorothy organised the first European Pikler Associated accredited Pikler Basic and advanced practice guidances courses in the UK and has co-founded the Pikler UK Association of which she is chair person. She is also the national Birth to Three representative on the Steiner Waldorf Early Years Steering group and chair of the Steiner Birth to Three working group. She offers consultancy to mainstream baby and infant rooms as well as in Steiner/Waldorf birth to three care settings. -------------------------- Sam Greshoff Sam co-mentors the Holistic Childcare Workshops with Dorothy. She began her involvement in Early Years Education and Care setting up and working in Steiner Waldorf Parent and Child Groups in London and later in Canterbury. This has led to her ongoing interest in working with young children and their parents. She has represented Parent and Child Group Leaders on the Steiner Waldorf Early Years Group for many years and has been involved in leading workshops and conferences for professionals working with young children and their families, she also writes regularly for the Kindling Journal on this subject. She completed the London Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood Studies and became a Kindergarten Teacher at Canterbury Steiner School. To deepen this work and her understanding of young children’s development and needs she undertook the European Accredited Pikler Basic Training and then the European Accredited Pikler Practice Guidance Training between 2012 - 2014.
