A SUMMARY
Porcelain clay has unique qualities. Its delicacy, translucency and remarkable strength have an enduring appeal. During this workshop, porcelain clay will be slab rolled and cut to shape. Then, using both hump and slump moulds, dishes will be formed. Lace pressed onto the surface will create texture and slips will be applied to add colour. More than one dish will be made and the individual will be encouraged to explore and experiment with their own ideas. The workshop will begin with a coffee and chat with Jenny. All techniques will be demonstrated, and you will be encouraged to experiment with your own ideas in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoying the views from Jenny's workshop in rural Sussex. Your work will be glazed and fired and be ready for you to collect around two weeks after the workshop. No experience necessary. Drinks and biscuits will be provided during the day, please bring your own packed lunch.
About your mentor
Jenny Wightwick
When your mentor provides a strapline it will go here
My background includes textiles, Art Foundation and a BA Hons in Creative Practice 3D Design. I have wide experience in teaching creative courses to adults. I have a fascination with clay, its versatility intrigues me, and I enjoy encouraging others to explore and develop their own ideas in this wonderful medium. My practice starts with an idea that I mull over for a while and can involve more than one process. My work is process-led and ideas develop as I manipulate in stoneware clay. Experimentation is an important part of my work and it is sometimes necessary to revisit an old technique as a starting point. People are never disappointed in this one-day workshop because everyone can make progress and enjoy the process of creating with versatility.
