What we'll do
UDO IT Dance has been awarded grant funding from Milton Keynes City Council to deliver sessions for the Holiday Activities and Food Programme, for children in receipt of benefit-related Free School Meals (FSM), during Winter school holidays in 2023/24. Our HAF event will be a street dance camp. We will teach the students the fundamentals of Street Dance which will include hip hop, breaking, locking, popping and house which collectively fit under the umbrella of Street Dance. Each day will bring a new focus as we take the students on a journey of our highly acclaimed programs of Street Dance Activators, ConfiDance, plus cyphers and choreography battle days. We will also work on skills such as musicality, co-ordination, creativity, teamwork, leadership and resilience. Fun games will also be built into the camp which will encourage and increase confidence, motivation and Streetdance knowledge. Furthermore, creative tasks will be included for expression and release where students can create on paper positivity posters, the topic for this HAF is aspirations/dreams, where do they want their pathway to lead them? Street dance is such a positive experience, it has no meaning for its desire, it doesn’t value age, wealth or race it unites. It remains one of the most popular art forms amongst young people. Socially it enables to gain artistic skills, improves discipline and helps to develop their abilities in social interaction, teamwork, problem solving, observing, evaluation, verbal and non-verbal communication.
About your mentor
UDOIT Dance Foundation
To empower, engage and inspire
The UDOIT Dance Foundation is a charity that was set up in 2014, with a focus on ensuring every young person has the opportunity to access street dance. We aim to inspire, engage and empower children and young people through street dance, making sure all opportunities are inclusive for everyone to enjoy. We have been funded by Sport England & Sport Wales as national partners to support the roll out of an inclusive street dance offer across both nations, focusing on areas of deprivation. Through our years of experience working with street dance in the school and community environments, we have since been able to create bespoke programmes that use Street Dance to help with issues such as mental health & gang & knife crime, engaging women & girls into physical activity and tailored Street Dance delivery for the elderly & learners with special educational needs.
