A summary
Hike up to some abandoned mines where you will learn what it was like to work underground. See some amazing sights and wild camp by a lake. You will need a good level of fitness and be able to carry all your equipment yourself. This will be around 10-12kgs in weight. We walk a total of approximately 8 miles altogether, this is over the two days starting at 1pm Saturday and finishing at approximately 1pm Sunday. Underfoot will be rocky, boggy and generally rough terrain. So ankle supported walking boots are mandatory. You will need to provide the kit yourself. Kit list: 65-70 litre rucksack Walking boots, must have ankle support Walking trousers/leggings (no denim jeans) Sports t shirt Spare socks 2 fleece jumpers Clothes to sleep in (sports legging and t shirt is good as they can double up as spare clothes if you get wet the following day) Waterproof trousers Waterproof jacket Hat & gloves Walking poles if you need them. Sleeping bag & camping pillow (rolled up jumper) 1-2 man lightweight tent Camping stove Head torch with spare batteries Food for an evening meal (freeze dried camping meals are good) Food for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch Snacks You must carry a minimum of 2 litres of water. All other water can be boiled to be used for cooking and drinking there after. Blister plasters and painkillers (for headaches etc) A good book is a good idea or a pod cast for night time! Any medication you need regularly If you are struggling for any kit, ‘Kitsquad’ can help, contact Love her wild for more details. About your mentor
Jan
Mud, sweat and fun!
My name is Jan Phillips, I am qualified mountain leader, I qualified in 2017 after many years before hiking in North Wales. I used to be a running coach too and had my own running club before the pandemic. I love getting people out in the hills, it is both a great way of keeping fit and blowing away the cobwebs! I grew up on a sheep farm in North Wales and have always loved the great outdoors. My parents were keen hikers too, my first time up Snowdon was at age 8 months in the baby carrier! I also work in the NHS in community dental services specialising in special needs, sedation and urgent care as a dental nurse.
