A summary
Create some wonderful practical and decorative items with reedmace - an incredibly versatile plant. In the workshop you will gain practical experience with its applications as an easy-to-find tinder; a quality string that's simple to prepare; a surprisingly beautiful mat-making material; and even a delicious addition to a stir-fry. The workshop will also include details on the most effective ways to gather and store materials. Come ready to be inspired and Dave and Tara will show you how to put it all into practice.
About your mentors
Dave Watson
Inspiring Bushcraft Trainer and Mentor
Since 1995 I have been training people in Bushcraft and Survival and has been instrumental in developing approved standards of practice in conjunction with the Institute for Outdoor learning as well as others. I have the privilege of training and mentoring many up and coming professionals who use the inspiring skills of Bushcraft to equip people of all ages and abilities. To see them come alive with their own discoveries is inspirational and also quite infectious. I am an approved provider of several courses through the IOL and also a senior assessor.
Tara Crank
Educator in Bushcraft & Wildlife; PhD Student
Tara has a particular interest in experiential learning outdoors. She entwines this with her fascination for natural processes in her work teaching bushcraft skills and as a wildlife and conservation educator. She enhances this as a keen Welsh learner by incorporating in vocabulary around nature. Tara has a master’s degree in Outdoor Education, specialising in technology’s potential to promote reconnection to unique natural places. In her mind, this is essential to repair and recreate our relationship with the natural environment. Her more recent ventures involve blending Welsh forages with flavours from her Gujarati culture; and she is about to embark on her PhD journey, studying the how a Community Green Health Hub can be used to promote health and ecoliteracy.
