A summary
What do you eat at forest school? If your site is a school or other suitable setting you might be able to add an area for fruit and vegetables. Increase the variety and freshness of your snacks by growing fruit, vegetables and herbs, to graze on, brew a cuppa with, or cook. Find out what plants work well within the school calendar, are easy to grow, and fun to harvest. We will discuss your own site, explore solutions to challenges, how veg growing can fit within forest school sessions, share successes and exchange ideas. Many settings already have veg patches, this work shop is for those looking for new ideas with existing veg growing, wanting to start, or just interested in growing food and connecting to the land. Some seeds and plants may be available to take home for your own site, or bring some seeds to share or swap if you have spare.
About your mentors
Nic
Love growing fruit & veg rewilding & bicycles
After a degree in Botany & seasonal work with wildlife charities I became a gardener with The National Trust. My passion to garden organically, plant veg not Rhododendrons led to change. I completed a PGCE in secondary science in 2004. I started work in a Primary school growing veg with children. In 2006 I found Forest School & now deliver this alongside growing food using school sites & council woods. I was briefly an EYS, KS1 & Children’s Centre teacher. I have worked in many schools in Norwich developing veg gardens & Forest School areas.
Nic Harding
Project's Officer at FSA
As the Project Officer, I'm pleased to be organising the annual Forest School Association Conference. I am appearing as a Mentor on each workshop to give me oversight and allow me to help out on the day, I may not actually be on your workshop.
