What we'll do
Learn how to make a simple non-permanent platform in the trees; great for the base of a tree house, or it could be used as a look out post, use it to get on to a zip wire, or even as a pirate ship! Learn how to risk assess the trees, what wood to use and how to fix the platform in the trees. Make a fixed wooden ladder & a rope ladder to get up to your platform. You will be using square lashing to create the beams and the platform, and use a marlin spike hitch to create a really quick easy rope ladder to climb up to your platform. You will also learn how to make a solid ladder.
About your mentors
Joanne Atkins
FS leader, trainer & woodland wanderer
I am a Forest School leader and trainer with Suffolk Wildlife Trust. I have many years experience of Forest school and of working with children, young people and adults. And I love plants - looking at them, smelling them & using them.
Emma Keeble
FS leader, trainer, OL, big kid at heart!
As a Wild Learning Officer with Suffolk Wildlife Trust for almost 20 years i've run a range of running environmental education visits for schools, families, home educated children and other specialist groups. I have been facilitating a number of different adult training courses from STEM sessions, SCITT courses, INSET days and now run level 1, 2 and 3 Forest school training too. Nature grounds me, calms me, excites and inspires me and I love sharing and seeing that passion and connection grow within others and being part of their journey.
Nic Harding
Project's Officer at FSA
As the Project Officer, I'm pleased to be organising the annual Forest School Association Conference. I am appearing as a Mentor on each workshop to give me oversight and allow me to help out on the day, I may not actually be on your workshop.
