A SUMMARY
This is a painting course divided into 4 workshops, each with a different theme. 1. Wild Weather: This first workshop will take inspiration from the surrounding nature and the weather. We will draw what we can see outside and bringing those observations inside to create the work. The idea is to be experimental and playful. We may very possibly use unusual painting tools for this bit. 2. Wild Portraits. We will be working on real portraits, trying to capture likeness but without feeling restricted by it. Because the last thing we want is to achieve perfection, we will experiment by using a number of more unconventional painting methods., such as 'looking' with your eyes closed.. perhaps... 3. Life Is Not still unless it's a Still Life: Will focus on creating a composition from a still life installation. This workshop is incredibly calming and meditative but at the same time, guess what, playful and experimental, yes, again...but in a different way. 4. Self Expression: This time you can create your own composition. Abstract or figurative. You will let yor imagination lead the way. Here you'll be let loose, so to speak... In all 4 sessions, we will paint on canvas and paper, using acrylics and other things. We will also use drawing, sketching and other techniques. The 4 workshops are linked and planned as a course in four parts. Those who do the full block will get the most out of it, but if numbers allow, newcomers will be able to join for single sessions. This course is aimed at children with a keen interest in drawing and painting. Talent or previous experience are not important. To want to paint and to want to get better at it is the main thing. This course will cater for all levels of experience and it's also open to adults when accompanying a child. Please note, equipment will be provided but a materials & equipment list will also be sent to you with your confirmation. You can never have too many art materials! Let's get you painting!
About your mentor
Johanna Berger
When your mentor provides a strapline it will go here
Mainly, I would say, that I am an enthusiastic teacher, interested in lighting a spark of inspiration in young people, that can serve them when they are older. In terms of credentials to teach art, there is the following: I taught painting at Emerson College, Forest Row, England for 9 years. In 2007, I set up BLANK artists’ studios and gallery in Brighton and in 2010, co-founded Involuntary Park, an art practice working in place-making, regeneration and community engagement. Have an MA in Fine Arts, a degree in Anthroposophical Art Therapy and BA in Design. Currently, I divide my time between working as an art therapist at the Brighton Steiner School, working as a creative consultant with organisations internationally, teaching art courses and retreats in several countries around the world, and painting in my studio. My work is represented by Marisol Fine Arts in New York City.
