31 March: Create Your Own CD and Cover Art with Musical Duo Emma Denby and Carl Cole
Students will work in groups of up to 7 to create their own music to practice and record onto a CD. The day will be fluid with time for brainstorming, practicing, recording and decorating their album covers so that everyone has enough time to complete their projects.
The project would involve working with others to create music, this music could be just instruments, or it could be a cappella singing, it could even be something quite abstract like a soundtrack to a horror film! Using examples of cover art that would be brought in to show the participants, we would use drawing and painting techniques to then produce their own cover art. For this, they don't have to work in groups, but they can if they want to keep their 'band aesthetic' together. We would use techniques like watercolour backgrounds, graffiti style text, posca pens for bold colours, and collage materials for layering and finding inspiration.
Morning:
Introductions
Brief for the day & questions

Participants put into groups and brainstorm! Then practice!
Before lunch - think about their group, their genre and what their band might be called!
Afternoon:

Groups begin to record over the afternoon
When not recording, participants can be working on their album covers with Emma

10 April: The Power of Storytelling with Theatre Maker Sian Burford-Thomas
This workshop is designed to explore the power of our voices, to get young people thinking about what they are passionate about, via the medium of stories. A very adaptable workshop in terms of the interests of the group
Stories have power – the power to entertain, to educate, to challenge and to change.
Join us to celebrate your power, your voice and to tell stories that matter to YOU. In this
workshop we’ll be tapping into our ideas, imaginations and desire for change, all through storytelling. So, what is it you want to say?
We’ll be using theatre making techniques to get us thinking, but there’ll be no pressure to perform in front of others if you don’t want to. You can share back your story through
performance, words or images, and you’ll get to take home our storytelling device, enabling you to reimagine your ideas again and again.
Come and enjoy a creative day where your ideas matter!
