For more information on each workshop and our amazing artists, please visit our website: www.suffolklibraries.co.uk/blank-page Workshop details: Library: Chantry Library, Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich, IP2 0QY Fri 27 Dec 2024 09:45 - 15:30 Flat Pack Fauna Workshop with Joel Millerchip – Create your own plantsallation! Join illustrator Joel Millerchip for this free creative workshop for 10-16 year olds and create your very own plant installation as part of the library. Decorate a wooded flat pack house plant as part of a library exhibition! Using a laser cut wooden plate, you will decorate one of four house plant sculptures, from a pot belly fig to a miniature swiss-cheese. These wooden shapes will slit in together to create a flat pack house plant which you can then decorate using posca pens and acrylic paint. These will be exhibited as a house plant installation in Chantry Library for the next month. At the end of the exhibition, attendees are welcome to come back to collect their plant piece and take them home. The wellbeing of our young people is really important to us and time outdoors is a key part of that. With this in mind, where possible a short walk or time outdoors will be incorporated into the workshop days. This will be supervised by the staff running the workshops and will also be weather dependent. Please ensure your child has a coat and sensible footwear! If your booking is made within 72 hours of the workshop, we may not be able to accommodate specific dietary requirements. Please get in touch with the library location for the workshop to discuss options. Please note that whilst we welcome all young people, our staff are not specifically SEND trained. This workshop is for 10-16 year olds only. If you feel your child requires additional support in the form of adult attendance in order to access this workshop, contact us by emailing katie.puls@suffolklibraries.co.uk. Fri 03 Jan 2025 09:45 - 15:30 Vision Board Creation Workshop with Lily from Uwu Studio Join artist Lily Hammond for this free creative workshop for 10-16 year olds and create your very own vision board for the new year! During this 1-day workshop, you will get to creatively explore your goals and dreams for the year ahead, by making a vision board using drawing, collage and typography techniques. This workshop is designed for young people to find and use their voices through exploring their own individual hopes and dreams. Activities will include intention setting for the coming year by drawing, painting and getting creative. We will refine our illustrations to create unique mood boards, followed by a group discussion reflecting on our creations from the day. Lily is an illustrator working from her studio in rural Suffolk, having graduated with a first class honours in illustration. Her practice spans the creative sector from working on a commission for Black History Month for the BBC to working in an East London studio. Lily has a real passion for colour and pattern her portfolio demonstrates a plethora of different subject matters, whilst staying true to her loves and passions in life. She works in a variety of media– predominantly digital art, markers and acrylic painting – and makes use of textured and layered techniques to create energetic, eyecatching creations.
Suffolk Libraries
Where you belong
Suffolk Libraries is a charity which has run Suffolk’s library service since August 2012. We have kept all of Suffolk’s libraries open. There are even more libraries now than in 2012 with a 45th opening in 2022. In total there are 45 libraries, three mobile libraries covering hundreds of stops in rural areas and three pop-up weekly library sessions. This website is also packed with useful information and provides a gateway to our extensive free eLibrary service. All this means you’re never too far away from the library in Suffolk!
Joel Millerchip
Illustrator and artist.
I’m Joel Millerchip, an artist, ADHD thinker, illustrator and tattooist-in-the-making. Born in Birmingham, blossoming in Suffolk. My distinctive illustrative style is perfect for bold, impactful designs that work perfectly in print, on a wall, on a screen or all over your left leg. I also Lecture and support creative workshops with young people.
Wendy Barrett
Often seen with foraging for craft materials.
I started working as a Nursery Nurse. Now at Chantry Library, I enjoy working with children of all ages encouraging imagination learning through play about the environment and nature using recyclable craft materials. Its surprising what you can make with an old box or milk carton. I also love books.

Free bookings do not require refunds but as places are limited, please cancel if you cannot attend so that your place can be offered to someone else.
