A summary
The ever present issue of access to land has been in the news recently, with the Dartmoor ruling and the pandemic revealing the huge inequality in access to green and blue space. The UK is an enclosed environment with private land ownership and planning laws limiting how we practice. Getting access to land for a site is a real challenge for most practitioners. Then comes the next set of challenges, dealing with landowners, regulations, neighbours, insurers and the list goes on. Maybe you have completed Dr Mel McCree's recent survey local forest school practitioners network? If not, look out for it and contribute so your voice and experience can be heard in this presentation! Mel will draw on the findings of this survey to highlight some key themes in this topical and perennial issue. She will then facilitate a discussion where we can explore them further and hear your experiences. How does co-operative working affect access to land and forest school sites? What are the issues & barriers involved? How can we support each other? These are all questions that can be carried out into the wider conference. Let's keep the conversation evolving. Mel is currently working on a paper on this subject for publication and is keen to hear about the current experiences of practitioners.
