A summary
Hello everyone! !!! CHANGE OF DATE - THIS IS NOW ON WEDNESDAY APRIL 5TH at 0930-1430 !!! To celebrate International Womens' Day 2023, Genius Brighton have teamed up with Brighton-based e-commerce agency GENE to put on a FREE fun half-day of tech activities for girls, non-binary and gender-variant young people! You'll learn about the gender gap in computer science in the UK, why it's a problem, and how you can help fix it. There will be inspirational lightning talks with women within the tech and e-commerce industry. They'll be ready to answer your questions about how they got into the industry, what it's really like, and even what they do day-to-day. When you're fired up to begin coding, we'll get hands-on with some electronics and coding. You'll get a simple one-hour introduction to some basic electronics, connecting them to Raspberry Pi computers and programming them using the Python programming language. We'll then use what we've learned to control the Minecraft game. You'll use industry-standard coding environments and methods, learning from people who do this every day! After that, we've got craft activities for you. Refreshments and snacks are laid on, so do let us know your dietary requirements when you book. If you're aged 9 or older, you'll probably manage this. If you're younger, you might need some help with all the typing. We move along pretty fast, and the last thing we want is to put off our younger coders. So, 9 and up usually works well. Why Coding For Girls, non-binary and gender-variant young people? Take a look at the rest of this listing for more about us and our philosophy. Booking is free, but we only have ten spots, so be quick! When you book, please send us in the optional message at least ONE question that you'd like to ask our team about careers in coding, and don't forget your dietary requirements!
