A summary
Hello everyone! Genius Brighton are back at Colonnade House this January. We're running Coding For Girls, where we hope to create a safe space to welcome girls, non-binary and gender variant young people to come and get into coding and electronics. You'll learn about the gender gap in computer science in the UK, why it's a problem, and how you can help fix it. You' might also learn about some important female figures in computer science. We will be giving a simple two-hour introduction to some basic electronics, connecting them to Raspberry Pi computers and programming them using the Python programming language. We'll then use what we've learned to control the Minecraft game. You'll use industry-standard coding environments and methods, learning from people who do this every day! If you're aged 9 or older, you'll probably manage this. If you're younger, you might need some help with all the typing. We move along pretty fast, and the last thing we want is to put off our younger coders. So, 9 and up usually works well. We only have 8 spots available for this two-hour session. We've run these workshops before, but this time we're adding a bit of electronics and fully updated coding exercises. Expect noise and just a little bit of chaos. Why Coding For Girls? Take a look at the rest of this listing for more about us and our philosophy.
