A summary
Following the success of our Spring holiday play-in-two-days, we are now taking bookings for a Play-in-four-days in the Summer holidays. We have forty places for children aged 8-12, and another twenty places for children aged 12-16 to come along for four days of creative theatre play. At acta Community Theatre, we have always used theatre and games as a tool to build confidence, connection and community. Each of these session blocks is an opportunity to create an original performance made by the young people who will have complete ownership of what they do and can be proud of what they have achieved.

About your mentors
acta Community Theatre
Removing barriers to creative expression
Since 1985, we have been working to bring together people from different cultures, experiences, and generations to make and share creative work. To do this we run several different regular open access creative groups, often with a focus on theatre, in Bedminster and beyond. We believe creativity belongs to everyone, and everyone has a story to tell. acta is a place where everyone’s story matters, where individual opinions and experiences count, and are valued by others. We enable communities to share their stories, and engage audiences who rarely attend theatre.
Rosalie Pordes
Projects Director
Rosalie has worked at acta Community Theatre for thirteen years now, and has worked on lots of different projects with people from different generations and backgrounds – but her focus of late has been young people. Born in London, Rosalie studied Drama at the University of Exeter where she discovered a passion for community theatre. Rosalie currently works on the Cultural Alliance programme, an arts-based learning programme delivered in partnership with three inner-city primary schools – so her experience and expertise places her in a perfect position to be supporting us on this project.
What you'll do
A typical day will begin with a check-in circle, followed by some physical games and ice-breakers. Once everyone is warmed up, we’ll work on improvisation exercises which will help build the young people’s confidence and self-esteem (all while being fun!). We’ve worked this way with young people for around forty years now – and time and time again we’ve seen this methodology creates a safe and supportive environment so that the group will develop soft-skills such as co-operative working, communication, creative thinking, problem solving and building initiative. We’ll also work with costumes, props, and scenery to develop the work into a performance for friends and family. All participants will be provided with a freshly cooked meal that has been especially designed to support the nutrition of the group whilst being culturally appropriate. Please provide dietary requirements when you book. Places cost £42.50 per day - but we have ten free places, funded by HAF, each day for children eligible for free school meals or Young Carers to be able to join us.

My experience consists of a leisure activity, on a specific date(s), and therefore the 14-day ‘cooling off period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply.
