A summary
Hello and welcome to the FREE Active Hastings Flab-u-less 12-week weight loss course for women. This course is open to women, aged 18+, living in Hastings and St Leonards with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 30 (or 27.5 for those of Black or Asian ethnic background). It's really easy to work out your BMI, simply put your details into the BMI calculator and it will give you your BMI. https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator/ Details of your 12-week weight loss journey: Your weight loss journey will run over 12 consecutive weeks, meeting your group once a week. We will carry out a full health check at the start of the course, taking your weight, height, and blood pressure, along with some body measurements (body measurements are optional), so we know your base line. Once we know your starting point we can get stuck in! The 12-week course includes: • Week 1: Calorie deficit and food diaries • Week 2: Habit breaking/exercise • Week 3: Drinks/work/life balance/exercise • Week 4: Healthy shopping/exercise • Week 5: Mindfulness/exercise • Week 6: Halfway point - Stages of change • Week 7: Emotional eating/exercise • Week 8: Pillars of health • Week 9: Snacking • Week 10: Exercise vs Physical activity • Week 11: Events/behaviour choices/exercise • Week 12: End of course results. The course will cover everything you need to help you lose weight. During the course you will take part in suitable exercise to help build a new lifestyle for yourself. Things you will need for the course: • Exercise clothing, something comfortable that you can move around in and a pair of trainers • A pen and notebook – we won't be writing much, but just in case you want to jot down any notes • A bottle of water – please note some venues do not have a kitchen for refreshments • An exercise mat - for those of you that want to exercise on the floor. A £10 refundable cash deposit is payable at the first session. Deposits will be returned on completion of the course. You will receive a folder for all your handouts, please don’t worry we’re not going to bombard you with paper, but the folder will be handy for you to store your course information. Towards the end of the course, we will work with you to make a personalised plan for when the 12-week course has finished. You won't just be marched out the door and left. Throughout the course there will be the chance to join WhatsApp groups and Facebook groups so that you can all keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. You will also be contacted at around week 26, by your course instructor, to see how you are getting on. Active Hastings
Physical activity sessions for everyone!
Active Hastings is an externally funded partnership project between Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council Public Health. We have been working in partnership since 2006 to give local residents easy, fun ways to get their everyday dose of physical activity. It only takes 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity each week for adults and 60 minutes every day for children to benefit your health, both mental and physical. You can even break it down into 10 minute slots! All of our team are experienced sports coaches, fitness instructors and play workers, who are passionate about working with people of all ages in Hastings and St Leonards. We run free or low cost sessions throughout the year, as well as holiday activities as part of the Holiday Activity and Food programme.

I am an experienced instructor, teaching exercise to music classes for over 20 years. I specialise in working with women and girls designing and developing programmes to help them become more active. I have a big interest in nutrition and weight management and I coordinate the Active Hastings weight management programme and also run my own nutrition business. I am a qualified personal trainer, exercise to music instructor, exercise referral instructor, pre and post natal instructor and I have a level 4 in Obesity and Diabetes. I am currently working towards my level 4 in Nutrition and will hold a membership with the Royal Society of Public Health.
