About your mentors
Role Models
Mentors who really care
All our courses are run in small groups. This ensures our Role Model can get to know each child individually. To help with this, before the course begins, we ask you to answer a few questions about your child and any specific needs they might have. We will also ask about food allergies, medical conditions and any additional needs that our Role Model needs to know about. It will only take a minute or two, and it ensures our Role Model has all the information they need to ensure your child has the best experience possible.
Mima Price
Year 6 Co-Teacher and creative enthusiast.
Hi there - I'm Mima (she/her). I'm a recent graduate and now a primary school Co-Teacher. I completed my Art Foundation Diploma at Leeds before moving on to study English Literature and Art History at Edinburgh, where I achieved a Masters of Arts with Honours, First Class. I am a highly creative person and I strongly believe in the power of creative expression. I’ve always been artistically inclined, having studied music, drama and art from a young age and I know how much this has helped me throughout my life. Edith Eger, an Auschwitz survivor and clinical psychologist, writes in her books that ‘The opposite of depression is expression’. I believe that for a lot of people describing how they feeling, talking about and naming our emotions is a daunting and intimidating idea. Creativity, however, is widely varying and adaptable and so I believe it can provide a more accessible and less clinical mode of personal expression. I’m therefore passionate about art as a particularly accessible therapeutic and educational process. Further, I am very energetic and fun-loving whilst also being highly empathetic and compassionate, meaning I have a genuine love of communication. I find interacting with different people inspiring and didactic, and exploring what others can teach me about myself or the world totally fascinates me. Working in a school at the moment and working with SEN pupils has further taught me that learning is boundless; our brains can never fill up and everyone we interact with can teach us and enrich our lives. I became interested in teaching because I believe wholeheartedly in learning and exploration as powerful tools for building resilience, nurturing a growth mindset, instilling compassion and feeding creative expression. My philosophy would be that each individual is unique, valuable and can offer that which no one else can. I am zealous about unlocking this potential in children, in building their self-belief and confidence, and, subsequently, in helping them make their own distinctive impression on the world.
Olivia Dorman
Fun-loving creative & explorer
Hi, I'm Olivia! One of the things that has shaped me in who I am today is my enthusiasm and keen interest for exploring and understanding the mind and the way it works. I have delved into books, podcasts and so many realms of how to develop as a person and build more solidified confidence, resilience and the huge value in a growth mindset, whilst embracing my highly empathetic nature. I am so inspired the way children are so curious and inquisitive about the world, so innately kind and compassionate and if we can nurture all these wonderful qualities whilst also building on core life skills, we can know what a positive impact it will have on them and therefore the positive impact they will have on the world. I love to use fun drama games in an educational way from my experience as a drama coach at a theatre club and as a performing arts graduate and I've seen it work so well in not just for performing but for generally building confidence, leadership and collaboration and listening skills. In my spare time I love to read, travel, exploring new food, cultures and scenery. I love to cook, spend time in nature and on walks with my dogs and spending time with my rambunctious three year old nephew!
What we'll do
This course uses the power of storytelling and creative activities to help children build the confidence to take risks and make mistakes. 'Brilliant Billy the Bunny’ accompanies the children throughout the course to help them navigate their emotions in a fun and supportive environment. Each day, two stories are shared with the children based around the power of our mindset. Each story is followed by a creative activity which helps them link the learning from the story to their everyday lives. Daily mindfulness activities are included to help the children learn to manage their emotions. An example story shared during the week is the fantastic ‘Beautiful Oops’ by Barney Saltzberg. This book encourages the children to understand that when we think we’ve made a mistake, we should think of it as an opportunity to make something beautiful. Through looking at the illustrations, the children reflect on how they feel about the mistakes they make; every smudge, spill, and failed drawing can be the beginning of something new and exciting. After reading the inspiring book, the children are then challenged to turn a range of ‘mistakes’ into new opportunities.
