What we'll do
Come and join us at our weekly group at the wonderful Eco Hub in Okehampton, as we make our way slowly towards the end of the calendar year. Over the course of the six weeks we'll be coming together to craft, create, cook, eat, grow, garden, and play. We'll be making the most of the beautiful outdoor space at the Eco Hub, as we watch nature change from autumn to winter. Each week there will be a seasonal craft to make and take home, a healthy organic snack using local produce to cook and share together, and time spent tending the garden and preparing it for colder months ahead. We'll be making... Winter sun empanadas Nasturtium risotto Apple cider vinegar We'll be crafting... Midwinter candles Hand printed wrapping paper Decorations for winter solstice As well as... Making bird feeders Sowing winter salads Planting onions And much much more... At the end of the half-term we will get ready to celebrate the winter solstice - the shortest day and the longest night, and the beginning of the slow return of the sun. At the end of the six weeks we'll gather together for a delicious and cosy winter feast! * Please note that children over the age of 6 years old are welcome to be dropped off but those younger must be accompanied by an adult.
About your mentor
Bea Yates
Passionate about alternatives
I started Rosehip & Sage in the autumn of 2022, and have been running much loved outdoor sessions for pre-schoolers, home-Ed families and primary school groups at Shillingford Organics Farm School for the last two years. I have worked on many other informal learning projects - from running arts and photography courses for young international students in England and overseas, working as part of the education department at TATE Modern and TATE Britain, and holding creative workshops for young refugees and children from disadvantaged inner city families through small grassroots charity organisations. It was the arrival of my now six year old that led me to forest school training here in Devon, and to developing a love of working with children outside in nature. I'm passionate about healthy eating, self sufficiency, planet friendly living, supporting local producers and ethical businesses, and spending as much time outdoors as possible.
