A SUMMARY
Congratulations! You have your University placement accepted or have decided to "fly the nest." Now it's time to think about how you're going to look after yourself whilst you're away from home... Cooking healthily on a budget is not only a great life skill but also, a great way to make new friends and navigate your way through your new environment. Learn how to keep your brain alert, your energy levels high and your mental health in check by cooking healthy and inexpensive meals. We'll be discussing basic nutritional needs, basic food safety, food storage, basic equipment requirements, grocery shopping tips and myth busters and the importance of socializing through cooking and eating together. We will learn in a variety of ways - handouts, demonstrations, hands on cookery and preparation but always, at the end of each day, we will sit and eat the meal we have created together. This is a two-day/evening course that will leave you feeling more confident in the kitchen and hopefully, a bit more excited and positive about your new adventure too. Courses are usually two consecutive days, Tuesday & Wednesday from 10am-2pm or an evening course from 4pm-8pm. If you have a gang of friends you would like to get together with at a time that is more convenient to you, please contact me to discuss your preferences and I will try to accommodate you. I look forward to welcoming you into my home!
About your mentor
Kristy Trainer
When your mentor provides a strapline it will go here
I am an absolute foodie, but a down-to- earth fun loving Aussie to boot! Coming from a HUGE family that loved to get together for any old reason, the Aunties would bring their signature dishes. This meant one thing only...FUN! Lots of delicious food, lots of laughter, lots of games, lots of cousins, a guitar and sing-a-long mash up and the inaugural Family Cricket Match....did I mention the watermelon skin throwing competition upon departure?! As a result of a strong Granny who taught all of her six children to cook, (sons included!) my whole family are great cooks, always trying something new and carrying on this tradition with their family and friends too. My Parents were both teachers so when I grew up, I wanted to be a teacher too! Providing courses like these fulfils both my passions perfectly. I'm teaching a new generation how to get the most out of a positive and healthy relationship with food and the desire to pass that on.
