A summary
Join Eugenie from Active Hastings for 45 minutes of pilates, designed to focus on your core fitness. The session is low impact and suitable for all abilities and fitness levels. Stay on afterwards for a free cup of tea or coffee and a chat with your fellow class members. What kind of workout is Pilates? Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall wellbeing. Similar to Yoga, Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, and bring an exercise mat, if you have your own and plenty of water. If you need help setting up your account, check out the ‘Getting Started’ information at https://help.eequ.org/en/collections/6661029-bookers or give us a call on 01424 451051.
About your mentors
Active Hastings
Physical activity sessions for everyone!
Active Hastings is an externally funded partnership project between Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council Public Health. We have been working in partnership since 2006 to give local residents easy, fun ways to get their everyday dose of physical activity. It only takes 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity each week for adults and 60 minutes every day for children to benefit your health, both mental and physical. You can even break it down into 10 minute slots! All of our team are experienced sports coaches, fitness instructors and play workers, who are passionate about working with people of all ages in Hastings and St Leonards. We run free or low cost sessions throughout the year, as well as holiday activities as part of the Holiday Activity and Food programme.
Eugenie Demeza
Active Hastings Instructor
I have been part of the Sports Development team since I was 16 years old, where I started on a part time basis before working full time on their “Football In The Community” project back in 2004. I took a few years break from the Council to work in America at a Football Academy in New Jersey before returning to work at Active Hastings. I started back on a Sport England’s Active Women project, where I became a Tennis, Netball and Rounders qualified coach. In 2011, I set up a Netball Club called Hastings Hellbent Netball Club which is still running with three teams playing in the Hastings League. In 2015, I decided to train as a level 3 Mat based Pilates instructor and have been delivering classes ever since in the community. After falling in love with Pilates Reformer in 2019 (a type of Pilates using resistance) I am now a trained Reformer Pilates instructor in Injuries and Special Populations. I have recently returned to work after having my first child and I’m back teaching Pilates as well as my role as Active Hastings Operations Coordinator. When I do have any free time I play netball matches for Hastings Hellbent lightening team but I mostly enjoy spending time with my family.
