A summary
The course offers an introduction to beekeeping for those interested in learning about these fascinating creatures and might like to start keeping bees.
Expert beekeepers will take you through the basic understanding of bees and beekeeping, giving you the skills and knowledge to get you started. Topics include the lifecycle of honeybees and the colony; types of hives and where to site them and the equipment needed; the beekeeper's calendar - swarms, manipulation, diseases, honey extraction and honeybee products, feeding and stings.
The course consists of 4 theory sessions in late winter and up to 3 practical sessions at members' apiaries in April/May, preparing you to take on your first colony in 2027.
A beekeeping book is include in the course fee. Couples from the same household will each receive a different book

Stowmarket and District Beekeeper Association has been a successful club for 80 years in 2027. We welcome new beekeepers who wish to learn how to keep honey bees successfully. We are a small club who are passionate about bees and helping new beekeepers in Stowmarket and surrounding areas. All beekeeping enthusiasts, from beginners to experienced, are welcome in our community.
