For ages: 18+ years
The course includes 4 evening theory sessions and usually 3 hive visits at a member’s apiary. You will be invited to handle bees with protective equipment available to borrow for the sessions. Our expert beekeepers will take you through the basic understanding of bees and beekeeping and introduce you to the skills and equipment you will need to get started. Topics covered are beekeeping equipment, types of hives and best locations, lifecycle of the honeybee, the beekeeper’s calendar, honeybee products, stings, swarms, diseases and hive manipulation. A beekeeping book is included in the course fee. Couples from the same household will each receive a different book. The course is run at the very beginning of the beekeeping year to set you up with the knowledge and skills you will need to start beekeeping effectively in the 2023 season. We will provide you with a free copy of one of the top beekeeping handbooks to take away from the course.
