Chris Knight A lifelong outdoor enthusiast and advocate, Chris has 15+ years’ experience as a Forest School Leader and Outdoor Learning Tutor. He has also enjoyed 25+ years as a successful commercial trainer. This combination of roles and experience makes Chris well placed to deliver outdoor learning and forest school to students from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups. Chris has delivered Outdoor Learning & Forest School Courses from early years to grandparents. Covering activities as diverse as outdoor games, fire lighting, natural art, shelters tarps & knots and green woodworking. “I see myself as an outdoor enthusiast and pragmatist. I just love sharing what I’ve learned over the years. Outdoor learning should be open to everyone, complete novice or budding expert, engaging and enjoyable. It’s not about ability or skill, just simple ideas enthusiastically delivered to invite people to learn something new, enjoy being outdoors, relax and have fun.” Chris grew up outdoors. Both his father and grandfather were ‘countrymen’. Time spent in their company and countless days out taught him a love of being outdoors, how to use a knife, make stuff, a good grounding in trees, birds and plants, and how to make a decent bow and arrow… Never happier than with his boots on and out in the woods or on a hill, as a Venture Scout Chris qualified as a trip leader and has lead trips in the wildest parts of Wales and Scotland. Over five summers he worked as a trip leader in the mountains of Maine and New Hampshire in the USA. “Keep close to Nature’s heart... and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean." John Muir
How to find Calcot Farm
Postcode is BN44 3AA but that stretches 2.5 m from Steyning to Ashurst, so a bit tricky but will get you nearish. If you come from Steyning along B2135 towards Partridge Green and Ashurst. Go about I mile and you start to go down a hill with woods on your left. At the bottom of the hill, there is a field on the left and about 100yds along that hedge, is a gateway with pull off. It's the first gateway on left(red flag on tree) into the field from bottom of the hill, go into the field but please keep the gate shut after you. Go straight across and through gateway into the next field. We will be on the left side of the field. From Partridge Green go through Ashurst , past New Wharf Farm on the common on the left. Go another mile past Calcot Farm and Calcot Farmhouse on the right, go in the next gateway on the right (red flag on tree), across the field - shutting the gate behind you. We will be in the next field on the left.
