What we'll do
Please join me for a fun, magical and adventurous day out in nature at Lymley Wood, Argos Hill Road, East Sussex. Autumn time is now here…. The Earth is beginning to fall asleep; it is ‘breathing in’. As a night draws in, the starry sky awakens and the bright stars remind us that it is time to find our own inner light at stirs the soul. This day, we will celebrate Martinmas. The light from the lanterns and the words from the songs are a powerful metaphor for own inner star; which prepares to guide us and shine forth as winter draws near. On arrival, we will make a lantern to take on our lantern walk later on in the day which then you can keep. We will also be crafting gnomes to take home from wood or felt. We will have time on the adventure play area with balance ropes, and net ropes and swings. For those tall and brave enough you’ll be given a token for the zip wire. For those wanting to learn, I will demonstrate how to light a fire with a flint and steel, and tinder bundles with the older children partaking if they wish to. We will whittle or peel sticks for toasting marshmallows on the fire. As dusk approaches, I will enchant you with a magical puppet show. We will light our lanterns and go on a walk through the woods quietly singing our lantern songs and seeing if any gnomes have come out to watch! It’s truly magical to see the children’s reactions….. We will end together back at the fire circle before saying goodbye. NB: * Please dress warmly and wear or bring waterproofs or a change of clothing. * Please bring snacks and water for you and your child. * It will be helpful to have a torch to help guide you back to your car in the dark. * All siblings are welcome - free under 2. * Extra siblings over 2 years are offered a discounted rate. * Please read Covid guidelines before attending. * Please read important information about parking.
About your mentors
Lorna Hendley
A teacher & mum who knows how to have fun!
I originally worked as a learning support assistant in mainstream school and found myself drawn to younger children. I fell in love with the Waldorf kindergarten from the moment I walked through the Steiner Kindergarten door. I completed my Waldorf early years teacher training alongside working as an assistant at Michael Hall Steiner school. I became a teacher and started a kindergarten with a new group of children and families. I was fortunate to have several happy years there before starting my own family. I am now a busy home maker and mother to three young children. However 2.5 years ago I started Kindergarten Magic, my indoor Steiner inspired parent and child and kindergarten for home educated families and children of pre school age. Alongside this, I started up a Steiner inspired outdoor parent and child group to embrace my Forest school leader qualification. Waldorf/Steiner education ties in beautifully with our natural environment. It is my aim to reconnect families with nature, to help foster a nature connection whilst having fun and creating magic and wonder for both the child and the parent.

Directions & Parking
Directions: From Mayfield turn right/ from Five Ashes turn left onto Horleigh Green Road for 1 mile. Look out for an arrow steep road on the right on a left-hand bend, and a farmhouse on the corner. This is Argos Hill Road. From Crowborough/ Rotherfield go through Rotherfield village passing the Kings Arms pub on the left. Take the fourth left down the hill onto Five Ashes Road. After 1 mile, look out for Argos Hill left on the bend however you cannot turn here left here as it is too sharp. Taking care, turn around in the next left... Fir Toll Road and then Argos Hill Road will be on your right. It has an 'access only' sign at the top. Watch out for tractors as it is a narrow road. 300 yards down Argos Hill Road, passing a big barn and farmyard on the right then there is a little parking spot on the left opposite Brook Farm House. This is Lymley Wood car park. From Mark Cross, you can turn onto Argos Hill Road, from Argos Hill Lane however it is rather bumpy in places and narrow. You drive all the way down the hill and the car park is on the right opposite Broom Farm House. Parking: Please park in the car park and not on the lane anywhere. Please do not park on the same side as Brook farm or block their entrance. The car park is small and has one entry/exit. It can hold 14 cars providing attendees all park close together. Please do not leave space for other cars to get out, we have to block each other in. Therefore if you have to leave early or promptly after the session, please be one of the last to arrive. There is an overflow car park past the farm as if you’re coming down the hill on your right through a metal gate into a field. It does have a sign saying overflow car park. They certainly can be used in most parts of the year. Please be cautious parking after severe wet weather, In case you get stuck! Certainly park here if you have a 4x4.
