A summary
These sessions will be tailored to the needs of students taking the GCSE Italian exam (currently in Year 10 or 11). Grammar and topics can be agreed upon depending on student strengths and weaknesses, with one over-arching approach: full-immersion into the Italian language. I will only speak Italian and I will encourage students to do the same. I will travel to you (10 miles each way included in the price, happy to travel further for an additional fee!). You decide if you'd prefer to be in the convenience and comfort of your own home or another venue such as a park, café or library! I will adapt my materials for the setting of your choice. Advertised dates: The dates on this listing are a suggestion to give you an idea of overall length: 6x weekly 2-hr sessions. My dates and times are flexible, please get in touch to request any specific dates and times that suit you. Pricing: The listing price is an estimate: The sessions cost £30 per hour excluding additional travel fees. This is then divided among the participants. So, for 3 participants the cost per person is £10 ph. For 5 participants the cost per person would be £6 ph and so on. Maximum group size for a GCSE course: 5 Why choose me? I am a native speaker of Italian who was born in Bologna. I have lived in the UK for nearly a decade and have several years of experience as a GCSE Italian teacher and private tutor, including working with gifted learners and those with special educational needs, such as dyslexia and autism. I am very comfortable with the new GCSE curriculum and will be able to help your child whether they are aiming for a Grade 4 or a Grade 9! I would be delighted to help your child do their best in their GCSE while also developing their love for a foreign language. Please message me to discuss any bespoke requests.
About your mentor
Tina The Tutor
Tina The Tutor can travel to you! FRE ITA ENG
I'm Martina - the little ones call me Tina. I adore languages. I am a polyglot who spent her early years in Italy, then moved to South Africa at the age of five, so balancing different languages and cultures is a core part of my identity and that of my family's. I work with children and adults from all walks of life, and I would love to make a positive difference in yours. I believe every child should have the opportunity to learn a second language - not only because it vastly increases your chances in the job market, but because it opens your mind. I have been teaching and tutoring for many years! I am a Certified Tutor as recognised by Training Qualifications UK, who are OFQUAL regulated. I am also a qualified teacher with QTS and a TESOL. I taught MFL (mostly French & Italian) from Year 7 to Year 13 in state schools/colleges. I have also taught at a number of private schools offering English as a Foreign Language (EFL, ESOL, EAL) to children and adults. As a private tutor, I have worked with a broad variety of children and adults on a plethora of subjects, including but not limited to: KS1-KS2 Literacy, Y1 to Y3 Maths, Italian and French for Beginners to Intermediates (A1-B2). I am experienced in working with a wide range of SEN, including dyslexia and autism. I still work part-time in a state college so I am always on top of the latest Safeguarding training. Teaching really is my life and my passion! My youngest ever tutee: A 2-year-old with above-average literacy and numeracy My oldest ever tutee: An 80-year-old with a passion for French! I am a bilingual foreigner: born in Italy, moved at age 5 to South Africa and emigrated to England in 2012. I am very much settled here and I'm looking forward to my Citizenship Ceremony this year. As a native speaker of Italian and English, I have a mostly South African accent, as much as I would like to convince myself that I sound like Stephen Fry. I do not, in fact, sound like a native British man. I studied French from the age of 10 onwards, so I am a fluent French speaker. I also studied Zulu and Spanish, and I am currently exploring Standard Arabic. Brighton & Hove is my home and I am enjoying teaching locals as well as people around England and abroad. I am currently teaching everyone online, and hopefully from September 2021 I intend to continue a mix of online and in-person teaching, depending on your needs! Happy to share my CV, Enhanced DBS check and references, all you need to do is ask :)
