Flamingo's autistic girls club
Providing safe spaces for autistic girls
Flamingos Autistic Girls Club, founded by Nikki Walford to provide a nurturing, joyful, and truly understanding space for autistic girls. Our mission is to create a community where autistic girls and young women can express themselves freely, build confidence, and form meaningful friendships in an environment designed with their needs at heart. Flamingos offers sessions for autistic girls aged 5–17, delivered by experienced facilitators, autistic mentors, and supportive volunteers who ensure every activity is accessible, enjoyable, and empowering. Each session is structured to be sensory-considerate, flexible, and focused on boosting wellbeing, social connection, and self-esteem. We run a variety of after-school, weekend, and holiday activities, including creative arts, movement sessions, social play, climbing and physical adventure sessions, and confidence-building workshops. All activities are designed to give girls the chance to explore new interests and develop key life and communication skills at their own pace. Parents and carers remain with their children, providing opportunities to receive guidance, share experiences, and connect with other families who understand the unique journey of raising autistic girls and young women, and most importantly for parents receiving a late diagnosis.
