Connect with nature

Out to the Woods CIC

I am a Level three Forest School trained and am fully insured. I currently run a Forest School based Admiral Woods in Bicknor, Kent. I have completed the certificate in Green Dementia Care, an accredited course run by the Therapeutic Forest CIC. The course is the first of its kind in the UK and covered modules taught by clinical psychologists to support mental health and well-being in the outdoors. The research into Green Care is very positive about its benefits to residents – reducing agitation and increasing engagement. There is also evidence that green sessions also support the well-being and happiness of care staff as can be seen in this review by Worcester Council. and University of Worcester. I am passionate about bringing the benefits of nature to all members of the community, although getting out into the woods is not always possible so we will be bringing the woods to Milton Creek Country Park. Based in the newly built room at Milton Creek, we will offer monthly sessions for over 55s and support workers/ carers. Some examples of the type of activities we can offer could include: Hapa Zome (a Japanese art form using hammers and petals/leaves to make prints on fabric Using tools to create woodland craft – this will be supported and we have risk assessments in place. Printing using natural materials Planting seeds Creating bird feeders Leaf threading Leaf printing with leaves Using natural items to create nature Bird/ flower bingo Willow or Hazel weaving Cooking over a mini fire pit
