A summary

Enriching outdoor activities for 5-11 year olds during the school holidays. Experience swinging from trees and using tools to create crafts. Enjoy making a selection of foods and cooking them on the camp fire. Engage with others to build dens and play games. Plus more exciting outdoor activities. An example of our day at camp: The day begins with an introduction to our boundaries, through playing games (like duck duck goose) around the fire circle. We have three rules to ensure we have fun and remain safe (look after yourself, look after each other and look after the woodland). The children then have the opportunity to light the fire or explore the activities on site. We prepare and cook our mid-morning snack, which we share around the fire. Children are invited to make lunch, while other staff support the children exploring other activities/crafts available. After enjoying our ‘home made’ lunch on offer or own own pack up, there is the option to play team games or use tools to create woodland crafts. During the afternoon we cook a ‘sweet treat’ and we have the opportunity to ride the raft!

Rebecca Dodman manages the programmes on offer at The Willows. Her ambition is to promote the love of learning through personalised/outdoor experiences; leading by example and inspiring children to fulfil their aspirations. Rebecca has empathy and energy to drive improvement and implement initiatives; for individuals to succeed, feel valued and to make a difference. She is passionate in providing high quality education for all. As a former leader in education, primary school teacher and qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader Rebecca has the experience and skills to plan a wide range of different activities, including child-led, open ended tasks; which as Dr Maria Montessori suggests will allow learners to use their own abilities to develop all aspects at their own pace.

What should my child wear/bring?

What should my child wear? It is very important that your child is dressed appropriately for Forest School camp, in order for them to enjoy the experience and opportunities we provide. Your child should arrive wearing old clothes, with their waterproofs and additional clothes packed in a bag. The kit identified below, will help protect your child from the elements: o Waterproofcoat o Waterproof trousers(optional) o Wellington boots or old trainers o Warm hat, scarf and gloves or a sun hat o Warm trousers or lightweight long trousers o Long-sleevedjumper/fleece o Long-sleeved top oThick socks(for winter)thermal or two pairs What should my child bring? If your child is participating all day (10.30-3), they will need to bring a drink and packed lunch. Although, we provide hot chocolate and cook refreshments on the fire, your child may not like the food on offer. Therefore, we do suggest they bring a packed lunch to keep them fuelled for an active day outdoors. Spare clothes and footwear are also strongly recommended, as we have lots of mud and water on site! If your child requires medication this should be brought to camp and handed to a member of staff at the beginning of the session.

Learning aims

Aim 1

Engage in activities (based on Forest School teaching techniques); which are proven to increase motivation, confidence and communication skills.

Immerse yourself in our safe, wonderful willow camp; to develop your well-being and social ability.

Aim 3

You will be encouraged to take managed risks and make positive choices, whilst having fun, making new friends and exploring the great outdoors.

Consent and permissions

First aid consent By providing your child’s details and making this booking you give permission for a member of staff (with outdoor first aid certification) to administer first aid to your child if required. Activity consent By making this booking you give consent for your child to participate in the planned tasks listed below: • Shelter/den building • Balancing bridges and low ropes •. Raft riding •. Swinging on the tyre/rope swing • Bug hunting • Whittling using vegetable peelers/knives • Wild arts and crafts • Mud sculpting • Tree climbing (no higher than 3 meters) • Cooking on an open fire (with supervision) • Using tools, including mallets, saws and drills The Willows does not take responsibility for any injury that a child causes to them self because they have not followed our rules, procedures and guidance. Photograph consent At The Willows photographs may be taken for marketing purposes; to be used by Rebecca Doman; to advertise future camps. Children will not be identified by name in the photos, unless direct communication is made with the child’s parents/carers. By providing your child’s details and making this booking you give permission for photos of your child to be taken and used in this way. Data Protection and Confidentially All information provided is covered by the Data Protection Act and is strictly confidential. I fully understand and agree that all the information I have provided may be held by Rebecca Dodman from the booking date to one week after the event. Printed information will then be disposed of according to GDPR.

Cancellation Policy

No refunds are given except in the case of a cancellation by the Mentor.However, if I can fulfil your child’s place you may be entitled to a 75% refund. Please contact Rebecca@thewillowshorringer.com or telephone 07920096012 to notify of absence/cancellation.

My experience consists of a leisure activity, on a specific date(s), and therefore the 14-day ‘cooling off period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply.
