What we'll do

Come and join us at West Wight Nursery for 4 weeks full of fun over the Summer. Each day of the week will focus on a different activity for your child's creative and physical self-expression with plenty of time to make new friends, develop their confidence and learn new skills. From Mondays with Huxley to Friday Roller Boogie fun there's something for everyone to enjoy. Children can also play outside in the copse with ball games, water play, trampoline and paddling pool or spend time at the beach. More information about each activity is listed below in 'What's On Each Day' section. The HAF day starts with a healthy breakfast and finishes with a delicious lunch. Parents can pick up from 1pm when the HAF session ends or book paid for additional hours from 1-5pm - booking forms for the additional hours will need to be done in the office ahead of time.

Our criteria for success is the development of the whole child, physical, moral, , academic and aesthetic, while taking account of the needs of the individual. Basically embodying the HAF principles of success We believe that it is important to support parents in the formation of their children and we recognise the value of strong links between home and nursery. We believe that it is important to make and maintain strong links with the wider community, including the immediate parish, wider community and local school community of St. Saviours and the wider West Wight Nursery

Please limit you sessions over the 4 weeks to a maximum of 7 and we will distribute the rest between people if ALL places are not booked

Learning aims

Aim 1

At the end of each session we hope children will have improved confidence in their abilities to achieve what they have set out to do.

Aim 3

Improved physical and emotional skills, made new friends and developed new interests.

Aim 2

For every child to feel valued in their own lives and as part of our HAF community and have a sense of pride in themselves

Aim 4

Learn about Oral hygiene, recycling, growing and our planets sustainability. Learn to keep themselves and our Island safe.

What's On Each Day

Mondays with Huxley: Award Winning IOW Comedy Magician (Officially 'Nearly' The Best in Southern England), Fossil Hunting Tour Guide, School Workshop Facilitator, & Ceramic Artist. Huxley will arrive at 10am to deliver a variety of sessions ranging from magic, tricks, clay workshops, juggling, balloon and model planes craft. Tuesdays: Llama Drama IOW is run by a qualified primary school teacher with a deep passion for drama and the transformative power it holds Our 2 hour sessions are varied and full of energy, ensuring there’s something for every child to enjoy. Whether it’s improvisation, role-playing, drama games or storytelling, we focus on the journey rather than the destination While we do work on skills that help improve performance, such as projection, movement and character development, our emphasis is on having fun. Wednesdays: Fun Day Each week we go where the day takes us. Maybe our on-site Copse for a fire to roast marshmallows & explore, or feeding the chickens and some fun on a bouncy castle. We might go for a walk across the fields or spend the morning at the beach having a swim, using a paddle board, or fossil hunting and litter picking. We also have a theme each week to make us more mindful global citizens which might include recycling, or pollution in our oceans. We like to take the opportunity for teachable moments! Another focus will be healthy meals and teeth, Please ensure sun cream is applied before the session and children wear sensible trainers or shoes as well as pack swimsuits and towels on beach days. Wellies if its wet for the copse and raincoats Thursdays: PE, Gymnastics and Games We start with a warm-up, a main activity or lesson, and a cool-down. The session might be focused on a specific sport, a set of skills, mat work doe gymnastic skills or general fitness. Children learn movement skills, develop physical fitness and participate in team activities and games, working on the children's fitness levels and their sense of accomplishment. Sessions are run by qualified PE and gymnastics coaches. Fridays: Roller Skate Boogie with Mark and the gang. A music filled session for beginners and pro's to enjoy moving on skates and learning new skills. Bring your own skates or use the skates supplied. Large hall so plenty of space and Mark and his team as well as our staff are on hand to offer a hand to hold or advice on how to get started. Its such fun even the staff get their skates on!
