A summary
A weekly 'Nordic Fitness Session' in and around Charlotte's Wood in Wilby is a great opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, get fit and connect with others. The aim of these sessions is to improve personal fitness and stamina through regular walking with poles. Sessions take place on Friday afternoons starting at 1.30pm and finishing around 3pm. Sessions may be booked weekly or in a block of four. The meeting point for all sessions is Charlotte's Wood at Sundial Cottage in Wilby (IP21 5LT) where there is parking and access to toilet facilities. Weeks 1-3 of each block will be a Nordic Fitness Walk with an option (following a group warm up) to either walk circuits of Charlotte's Wood, at your own pace, or to come on a walk with your instructor of 1-1.5 hours (3-4 miles) on different routes around Wilby village. There will then be a group (or self-directed) cool down. These walks will be led mainly by Carol. Week 4 of each block will be a Nordic Fitness Session. This will comprise a warm up routine, followed by a series of exercises (including use of equipment such as Therapy Bands) to improve balance, coordination and strength. There will then be time for some circuits around the woodland aimed at increasing stamina and overall fitness before a group cool-down routine. These sessions will be led mainly by Charlotte. Ideally you will be familiar with the Nordic Walking technique in order to participate in Nordic Fitness Sessions but they are suitable for beginners or those who have had just a Taster Session. Poles may be borrowed if you don’t have your own. The cost of the 4-week block is £20 (£5 per walk) with a small booking fee to pay in addition to the advertised price. If you aren't able to attend all 4 sessions, you can book individual sessions at a cost of £7 (plus booking fee) per session.

If you can walk, you can Nordic Walk
Nordic Walking Instructor with British Nordic Walking, living and working in South Norfolk - I love being outdoors and learnt to Nordic Walk to help with weight loss and fitness. There is nothing more freeing that strapping on my poles and heading off out. I'm also passionate about my dogs, kayaking, cycling and riding horses.
About Nordic Walking
Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience. With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross-country skiing, Nordic Walking is a whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running. More than 10 million people globally enjoy this outdoor activity all year round. Nordic Walking combines the simplicity and accessibility of walking with simultaneous core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. The result is a full body workout, which means that you: • burn up to 46% more calories compared to walking without poles • release tension in the neck and shoulders • improve your posture and gait • strengthen your back and abdominal muscles • reduce the impact on the joints And because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work, you’ll be happy to walk further and for longer.
