Our curriculum

We aim to be an outstanding childcare setting that provides a safe, stimulating environment through high quality care. Our setting works closely with our community and parents/carers to ensure children are supported, cared for, and grow into happy, successful individuals. At Rocking Horse Childcare, our children and community are at the centre of our curriculum. A safe, caring space where children flourish

Rocking Horse Childcare is a family‑run day nursery in the heart of Southend and Shoebury, led by a mother‑and‑daughter team with over 40 years of combined experience in Early Years education. With backgrounds in childminding and teaching, we are passionate about providing high‑quality care, learning, and development for every child. Our dedicated staff create enabling environments through thoughtful planning and carefully arranged spaces that support exploration and individual needs. By following the key‑person approach, we build strong, consistent relationships with children and their families, ensuring personalised support. We celebrate each child’s uniqueness and work closely with our SENDCo, ENCo, Family Liaison Coordinator, and local agencies—including the setting health visitor—to offer the best possible guidance. Our nurturing rooms, outdoor learning opportunities such as beach school, and enriching activities like qualified yoga and dance sessions creating a vibrant Early Years experience. With a commercial kitchen and an in‑house chef at both settings preparing nutritious home‑cooked meals, we strive to make every day safe, engaging, and full of opportunities for children to thrive.

Easter Summary

The We Rock Holiday Club will be delivering a vibrant and enriching Easter HAF programme, offering children a fun-filled blend of creativity, physical activity, and hands‑on learning. Each day bringing something new, while also building toward exciting weekly projects that encouraged teamwork, imagination, and confidence. Cooking Adventures Children will be taking part in cooking sessions where they can explored new recipes, learn essential kitchen skills, and created tasty dishes to enjoy. These activities will help them build independence and understand the importance of healthy eating in a fun, practical way. A trip to the Local Park Outdoor time is a big part of the programme. trips to the local park give children the chance to run, play, explore nature, and enjoy group games. These sessions support physical wellbeing and offer plenty of opportunities for social connection. Arts and Crafts Creativity will flow throughout the Easter break with a wide range of arts and crafts activities. From painting and model‑making to seasonal crafts, children are encouraged to express themselves, try new techniques, and take pride in their creations. Weekly Big Projects Each week will feature a special “big project” that children can work on day by day. These projects allow them to develop ideas over time, collaborate with others, and see their hard work come together in a meaningful final piece. Whether building, designing, or crafting, these projects were a highlight of the programme and a fantastic way to nurture problem‑solving and perseverance.

What to bring

As we love to get messy, creative and explore our environment please can you bring a change of clothes for this, we do love to explore and get dirty!. With the ever changing weather please supply clothing that is suitable for all these changes, hat, coat and sun cream. If they have a water bottle they would like to bring along that would be great too, as we know some children prefer their own to use.
