A summary
Pasta, paella, pizzas! Come and feel the heat in our summer cooking programme! Using our wood-fired oven, open fire pit and outdoor cooking area, you’ll work with new friends to prepare tasty food from scratch. Each day you’ll cook a different lunch and afternoon treat, learn professional chef skills and gather freshly grown fruit and vegetables from our garden. On top of cooking, you'll discover the Museum's beautiful grounds - foraging in the hedgerows, exploring historic food buildings and visiting the exhibitions - and everyday there'll be games, sports, crafts and free play for you to enjoy.

About your mentor
The Food Museum
Grow, Make, Eat...We are the UK’s Food Museum
Grow, Make, Eat... We are the UK’s Food Museum, located in East Anglia, ‘Britain’s Breadbasket’. Our mission is to connect people with where our food comes from and the impact of our choices: past, present and future. From cheese-making to brewing, historic breads to seasonal eating, we are here to engage audiences with the heritage of food and the communities who grow and make it.
Food offer:
We will offer a variety of foods based largely around seasonal fruits and vegetables and as all our food will be cooked from scratch, we will be able to adjust dishes for personal preference and dietary needs. Here is an example of some of the popular meals from last year that we will offer again this year. • Spatchcocked chicken roast with flat breads • Chickpea curry • Home-made pasta • Pizzas cooked in the wood-fired bread oven • Beetroot, blackberry & chocolate muffins • Vegetarian empanadas • Sausage making – with demo from local producer • Focaccia breads • Lamb koftas, homemade humous, & flatbreads
Learning aims
Aim 1
Thrills and Grills will be a fun journey of discovery into where our food comes from and the positive impact food can have on our health, wellbeing and environment.
Aim 2
The group will learn how to prepare and cook food from scratch, they will be able to taste the food as they cook it, and children will be encouraged to try new foods.
Aim 3
Each day will involve eating together and there will be recipe cards available to take away which support families to cook the food again at home.
