Summer Work Placements – 14-16 years block mentored by Culture Coventry
What we'll do
This summer, we are offering young people aged 14–16 the opportunity to gain valuable work experience across the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and Coventry Transport Museum. This is an exciting chance to explore the creative and cultural sector, supporting a range of activities including exhibition facilitation, family craft sessions, and the development of engaging museum trails to enhance the visitor experience for young audiences. We aim for this placement to be more than just observational work experience. Participants will be encouraged to share their own ideas and perspectives, contributing to how we engage and inspire our visitors, while learning directly from experienced museum professionals. To ensure a rich and varied experience, young people will spend time at both the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and Coventry Transport Museum. This will allow them to understand the different approaches each museum takes in bringing collections and stories to life. Each placement runs for four consecutive days, and participants are expected to commit to the full duration. Young people are welcome to book multiple placement weeks. As an added incentive, those who successfully complete a full week will receive a £80 Amazon voucher. This can be used to support a range of needs and interests, from essential summer purchases such as school stationery or uniform items at a time when the cost of living continues to rise, to books, creative materials, or even fun items and treats for themselves. A hot lunch, along with access to snacks and refreshments, will be provided throughout the placement. A dedicated member of our Learning and Engagement Team will be responsible for supporting participants throughout their time with us, ensuring they receive appropriate guidance and supervision. The programme also includes training in key areas such as health and safety, safeguarding, and public engagement. These skills will provide valuable experience to support future applications for jobs, college, or university.

Each placement runs for four consecutive days, and participants are expected to commit to the full duration. We can host 2 placements per week, but young people are welcome to book multiple weeks to build their experience across the summer.
