A summary
Ever heard of 3x3 basketball? It's currently ranked the number 1 urban sport around the world because of it's fast pace play and easy accessibility to take part. The common term used by Basketball England about 3x3 is 'Street to Elite' as players who originally started out playing at their local basketball court have now turned professional in this alternative style of basketball. At the Commonwealth Games, Birmingham 2022 England walked away with Men's Gold & Women's Silver medals so we feel it is important to keep up the momentum, so during the upcoming Summer Holiday we will be providing 3x3 camps over the course of 4 days to allow 11-16 year olds the chance to experience the game that is taking the world by storm. If you fancy giving it a try, come to 1 or all of our 4 day camps this Easter and as usual, our last day will be a tournament. Our tournaments are always the highlight of our camps as players have the chance to play independently and showcase all of their new skills. If you wish to play in the tournament on the 29th August, we recommend attending at least of the camp days between Tuesday & Thursday to familiarise yourself with 3x3 basketball. At our last Christmas tournament all of our players created a FIBA 3x3 profile, which takes no more than a minute - https://play.fiba3x3.com/signup By creating a profile you can earn ranking points each time you participate in a FIBA endorsed event so you can view how your friends are doing, also the 3x3 pro's.The more you play, the more points you can earn and help boost our national ranking so it is win win. During the camp days, our skilled coaches will cover: 1. 1v1 play, how to create and maintain advantages against a defender 2. 2v2 & 3v3 play, how to use the half court space affectively in order to be successful 3. How to make your own independent decisions based on our fun scenario based drills. We'll break off into age and ability based groups where you'll be given a scenario with multiple solutions and you will be given the independence on how to achieve the best outcome with the support of our coaches. Our lunch changes every day. We usually have either pasta, rice or jacket potato that comes with a choice of healthy fillings (this includes vegetable option) Fruit, yoghurts, drinks & snacks are also provided each day.
About your mentor
Coach Craig
Tall & all about 3x3 Basketball
I have close to 30 years basketball experience as a player and as a Basketball England, Level 2 qualified coach, involved with some of the country’s leading basketball programmes. There is a new and exciting version of basketball that has recently featured in the Olympics and Commonwealth Games which is called 3x3 and my mission is to teach this new variation of basketball to as many kids as possible because who knows where this could potentially lead? As a basketball coach there is no greater feeling passing on your knowledge & experience to see somebody else put this into play and develop as a basketball player. As you can probably tell basketball is my main hobby so from the minute I wake up my life is about basketball and I will do everything I can to help those who want to carry on playing even after the Portsmouth 3x3 Basketball Camp. When it comes to coaching basketball I always start with teamwork, attitude and communication. Teamwork – recognising your teammates and being prepared to give encouragement. Attitude – being prepared to listen, learn and take accountability. Communication – Things will often go wrong in team sports and when they do it is important we know how to talk & listen to each other so we can move forward in a positive manner.
