Library: Sudbury Library, Market Hill, Sudbury CO10 2EN 21 July- Lorna Garside- Special Effects Make-Up 4 August- Joanna Bivens- Poetry and Creativity 18 August- Jodi Peck- Wire Work Jewellery Making 21 July- Lorna Garside Learn how to create your own cuts, bruises and gory special effects makeup looks! Participants will learn how to create the gory looks they've seen on stage and screen. You'll be making your own stage blood, creating latex prosthetics, and learning how to apply cuts and bruises. We'll build the weirdest and most creative story we can think of and design the special effects to go along with it! We'll be exploring character development, coming up with the most creative, off the wall fantasy characters and designing their look. We'll use professional standard SFX makeup to recreate our designs, bringing our characters to life! Lorna-Jane Garside is an arts practitioner and actor based in Ipswich with a wealth of knowledge across both theatre and film. Lorna specialises in designing and delivering drama workshops with and for young people in and around Suffolk. Most recently Lorna has worked with The New Wolsey Theatre, Eastern Angels, SPILL, Suffolk New College, Latitude Festival 4 August- Joanna Bivens Join poet and children’s author Joanna Bivens for a fun, interactive day of poetry, creativity and discovery. Through playful writing activities, poetry treasure hunts, creative challenges and shared discussion, young people will explore how poets use rhythm, sound and imagination to bring ideas to life. Participants will experiment with a range of poetry styles, develop their own original poems and transform their writing into vibrant poetry posters using creative design. These finished pieces will then be brought together to create a pop-up poetry exhibition in the library- turning the space into a shared celebration of their voices, ideas and creativity. Joanna Bivens is a poet, children’s author and internationally experienced creative facilitator whose work uses poetry and storytelling to inspire children and young people. The author of four children’s books written in verse, she designs and delivers creative programmes that nurture confidence, creativity and self-expression, helping participants discover the power of their own voice. 18 August- Jodi Peck Discover the art of wire work jewellery making in this hands on workshop designed for young creatives aged 10–16. Participants will explore a variety of tools and techniques, learning core wire wrapping skills alongside methods for shaping, hammering, and forming metal. They’ll then design and create their own bespoke piece using eco friendly metals and repurposed beads and stones. Guided step by step in a supportive, inclusive environment, everyone will leave with new skills, increased confidence, and a unique piece of jewellery to take home. Jodi Peck is a jewellery maker with over 25 years’ experience, with a background in silversmithing, working primarily with eco silver, copper, brass, and repurposed materials. Her practice centres on eco conscious design, often incorporating salvaged beads and semi precious stones to promote creative reuse.
