What we'll do
During every session a range of activities are on offer. Each morning, the children will be able to take part in cosmic yoga and fitness sessions as well as take part in activities such as small world play, arts and crafts, board games, construction, physical play and reading. The children will have opportunities to play both indoors and outdoors. During breakfast time the children will be encouraged to sit down together and with staff to eat and chat freely. Morning sessions aim to be a great way to get prepared for the school day ahead. In the afternoon sessions, weather permitting, children will be offered a range of outdoor play including access to sports equipment, the school playground and outdoor fun in the forest area. During teatime, the children will be encouraged to sit down together to eat and catch up about their day. Indoor activities that will also be offered include free play with a range of stimulating toys and games, the reading and relaxation corner, team games, role play and a range of arts and crafts.
About your mentors
Stokenham Explorers
Exploring before and after school at SAPS
At Stokenham Explorers we aim to provide a happy, safe, secure and relaxed environment offering high quality childcare and play opportunities for your child. We believe in the importance of enjoyment and play to a child’s wellbeing and healthy development as an individual and aim to provide an environment that is friendly and relaxed. We offer children the opportunity to freely choose activities and resources as they wish and endeavour to meet the interests of the children in our care through the range of activities that we provide.
Evette Duncan
Play Leader
I’m a Mother of two young boys, my eldest is at secondary school and my youngest is in year 5 at Stokenham Area Primary School. I’ve always been passionate about working and volunteering in the area of Health and Wellbeing especially with the younger generation. I’m trained to teach Mindfulness, Positive Psychology and Relaxation skills for children by the Mindfulness in Schools Project and completing the Relax Kids programme. Currently, I’m a volunteer Mentor for Young Devon which I have been enjoying for the last 2 years. Always kind, creative and playful at heart and I am really looking forward to meeting and connecting with the young vibrant souls that will be joining us at Stokenham Explorers.
Helen Barton
Play leader
I have always loved children and chose to do a childcare course in college, I have a cache certificate in child care and education and also an early years childcare certificate.
What do we eat?
We aim to provide a healthy breakfast and a light tea each day. Examples of breakfast options include, fresh fruit, toast, crumpets, croissants and a range of toppings. For tea the children will be offered a variety of different options including sandwiches, wraps, bagels and a variety of snacks. Squash is available as well as drinking water. We will endeavour to meet individual dietary requirements and parental preferences wherever possible. We aim to promote independence, by encouraging the children to prepare their own food and to clear away after themselves.
