What we'll do
This enriching experience invites children aged 8 and above to connect with nature, practise mindfulness, and explore global cuisine. Throughout the day, they will take part in humane fishing, outdoor relaxation, and an interactive cooking session that introduces them to dishes from around the world. Participants will learn ethical fishing techniques under expert guidance, developing patience and skill while practising sustainable, catch-and-release fishing. They will be introduced to responsible handling, fish identification, and the importance of protecting aquatic ecosystems, fostering a deeper respect for nature. To complement this, a guided outdoor mindfulness session will help participants unwind and reflect on their surroundings. Through breathing exercises, gentle movement, and sensory awareness, they will cultivate focus, relaxation, and an appreciation for the natural world. These techniques can support emotional well-being and enhance concentration. The day also includes an exciting hands-on food preparation of picnic-style food. They will learn essential kitchen skills such as chopping, seasoning, and food safety, while prepairing their own meal for the day. Once the food is ready, everyone will sit down to enjoy their meal together, reflecting on their experiences. After eating, participants will work as a team to clean up, reinforcing responsibility and cooperation.

About your mentor
STEMPunx
Collaborate, Create and Learn YOUR way!
If you need some fun, exciting and thought-provoking Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths activities in your life consider embracing STEMPunx! We are a family company with a passion for learning, not for profit and we are all about learning from our community and with our community. But don’t expect us to stop at STEM subjects because everything you could possibly want to learn is multi-disciplinary! This means that science can be learnt through history, history can be learnt via art and art can be learnt through maths. We feel that all learning should be a combination of creation, collaboration and fun and that mental and emotional wellbeing are as important as academic learning. You don’t have to be young to be a learner. You also don’t have to be good at academic studies to be successful and you don’t have to sit still to be ‘working hard’. There are no limits to what you can learn or the route you can take to get there. Your learning experience should be unique because ‘YOU’ are the one learning and we can really get behind that. So whether you are a home educator, a student at school, a family, a class, a company or an individual. Community-based, club-based, school-based or passionate for your own or your family’s learning, STEMPunx might just be for you. Our sessions are lots of fun, as interactive as you want them to be and we will even develop a session or resource just for you!
Activity benefits
Humane fishing teaches patience, focus, and respect for nature. By practising ethical catch-and-release techniques, participants develop an understanding of sustainable fishing and environmental conservation. The activity also enhances problem-solving skills as they learn to adjust their approach based on conditions. Mindfulness in nature helps children slow down and connect with their surroundings. Breathing exercises and sensory awareness promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve concentration. These techniques support emotional well-being and can be used in daily life to manage anxiety or improve focus in school. Cooking global cuisine introduces children to diverse cultures and flavours while teaching essential life skills. They gain hands-on experience in food preparation, safe kitchen practices, and teamwork. Cooking also enhances confidence and independence, encouraging participants to experiment with new ingredients and healthy eating habits. Teamwork and responsibility are developed throughout the day, from collaborating on fishing techniques to cleaning up after cooking. These shared experiences foster communication, cooperation, and a sense of achievement.
