Songwriting & Recording Bootcamp (3-day), Hook block mentored by Kingston Music Service
A summary
A focused 3-day, small‑group studio experience for secondary students that blends band performance with real‑world recording and production. - Mornings (9.15-11.00am) are spent creating, rehearsing and tracking live takes across the studio’s live and control rooms. - Late-mornings (11.15am-12.45pm) shift to the control room for editing, creative overdubs, and mixing. By the end, students will have experienced the full studio workflow, from first takes to a polished mix, building confidence on both sides of the glass. Students rotate roles: creator, performer, engineer, producer, and session note‑taker, so everyone learns mic placement, signal flow, gain staging, editing, and the essentials of mixing (balance, EQ, compression, reverb/delay, and simple automation). Who it’s for: Beginner to intermediate secondary students (musicians or budding producers) Group size: Small cohort (recommended max 8) to suit compact rooms and ensure hands‑on time Daily schedule: 9:15–11:00 Live tracking (live room + control room) 11:15–12:45 Editing/production/mixing (control room only) Outcomes: The band(s) will aim to complete a 60–90 second track (cover or simple original), with a final stereo mix and session files (stems where time allows). What to bring: Personal instrument if portable (e.g., guitar/bass/sticks), water bottle; ear protection recommended Safety & supervision: Fully DBS-tutored, with current professional experience in the music sector.
