What we'll do
SHREK SUMMER SCHOOL 2025 'We all loved the Summer School – such a feat in a short space of time! It was so well thought out and the children all performed brilliantly, clearly enjoying the experience and working as a team. Both of my children (5 and 11) want to return to Summer School again next year. Thank you Kaleidoscope!' Sally Jones (Parent) Week 1: Monday 28th July to Friday 1st August An exciting creative week where we explore the characters and the story of Shrek through Drama, Dance, Singing and Art. Week 2: Monday 4th to Friday 8th August Children will develop their creative work into a fabulous performance for family and friends on Friday at 2pm Book both weeks or week 1 only. No single days available as HAF places. Participants be divided into smaller groups according to their age: 5-7 yrs, 7-11 yrs and 11-16 yrs. Our fun-loving team of theatre professionals will lead creative workshops for each group in Puppetry, Drama, Dance, Singing, Musical Theatre and Production Art. Everyone will have the chance to learn new skills, work as a team and have lots of fun along the way. A typical Summer School day starts with each class enjoying an outdoor treasure hunt, this is followed by some lively Drama warm up games which help break the ice and allow everyone to get to know each other a little better and make new friends. Children/young people will then enjoy a series of performing arts workshops led by our experienced team. If the weather is fine, we all have lunch together under the shade of the trees. After lunch we have afternoon workshops and we end each day with a fun games session or story time for the little ones. Older students are encouraged to work at a more challenging level so they experience a real taste of the world of theatre. Younger children have longer breaks, more games and can work at their own pace. The activities are all structured to boost confidence in every child/young person. All participants are encouraged to add their own ideas into the creative process. Our whole team love working creatively with children and young people who are fully supervised from the moment they arrive, until they leave. All of our teachers have Enhanced DBS certificates and are first-aid . Kaleidoscope have been offering Summer Schools in Lewes for over twenty years. Our Summer Schools normally get completely booked up, so we suggest you book as soon as you can to ensure your child doesn't miss out. HAF places now only available for Week 1. All Week 2 HAF places have been allocated and we are running a waiting list.

What to bring
Here's some detailed information about the Workshops, including what to bring each day: Participants will take part in a range of creative workshops led by specialist facilitators each day, including some of the following: Drama, Dance, Singing, Puppetry, Musical Theatre and Production Art. LUNCHES We will be walking the children round the corner to Pell's Park for supervised play at lunch time. We will provide a FREE lunch each day for any child booked through the HAF scheme. If you are not booking a HAF place then you'll need to provide a packed lunch and plenty of healthy snacks - no chocolate please as it melts! Please note: We have children on the Summer School with severe nut allergies, so we have a strict NO NUT RULE. WHAT TO WEAR Clothing which is easy to move in e.g. T-shirt and shorts/leggings, and something to wear outside like a fleece or hoodie. We do lots of physical work, so skirts are not really suitable as they can inhibit movement. Footwear that your child can run around in e.g. trainers or plimsoles. WHAT TO BRING: A named water bottle (we will refill if needed). Sun lotion - applied before arrival and extra if needed Sun hat or cap for break times outside Tissues ARRIVAL & DROP OFF: Please arrive at the main entrance to the (new) Sub Centre on Talbot Terrace (near Pells Pool) at 10am and wait outside until we let everyone in. Please don’t arrive much earlier than 10am as we will not be able to let anyone in early. Parents/Carers will say goodbye at the main entrance and will not be able to enter the venue due to child protection issues - please let your child know this in advance. Please make every effort to be prompt so that we can start all our activities on time. If you arrive late, the front gate will be locked, so please text or call Deirdre on 07963 478 393 and we will come to the main entrance and let your child in. MEDICATION If you have any medication to pass on to us for your child, please send your child in first and then wait until all the other children have gone in before passing on any medication - with clear written instructions attached to it - to Deirdre. EMERGENCY CONTACT DETAILS We have everyone’s emergency contact details, but if you have a different emergency phone number for any particular day, please text it to us on 07963 478 393 in the morning of that day. COLLECTING YOUR CHILD We will bring each class to entrance gate at 3.30pm. Please be prompt to collect your child and wait outside the front entrance. If you are unavoidably delayed for pick up please text us on 07963 478 393 to let us know. If your child is 11+ years old and you are happy for them to walk home on their own without an adult collecting them, please send in a written note with them on the first day. They can pass this on to Deirdre. Please ensure everyone who is picking up your child/ren knows what times they need to pick them up. As a performing arts organisation we may take some photos or videos of the children during the workshop to use on our website and or social media. We will never add a child’s name to any social media images. If you would prefer for your child’s photo or videos of their work not to be used just let us know by email: info@kaleidoscopedrama.uk Please do follow/like us on Facebook and Instagram to help us spread the word about our workshops and classes and to see updates about any future events we run. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to meeting you and your child soon!
