What we'll do
Children will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of exciting physical activities, as well as creative arts and crafts sessions. Our active sessions include swimming, football, cricket, den building, crazy golf, loose-parts construction, dance, large apparatus activities, gardening, gymnastics, visits to the tennis courts, the community sports area, the local play park, and bouncy castle inflatables. Creative arts and crafts activities include bracelet making, canvas painting, clay modelling, ceramic and glass art, watercolour painting, and dreamcatcher making. We aim to make all activities accessible and enjoyable for children of all age groups. The only exception is swimming sessions, where children must be aged 8 years or over and able to swim confidently without assistance.

About your mentor
Shap Church of England School
A safe place from which to soar
Our school is a warm, friendly, and nurturing environment where our Christian vision of “living in harmony” (Romans 12:16) guides everything we do. With children and the church at our core, we are a community united in fostering each child’s growth, ensuring a ‘safe branch from which to soar’ for all. Our Christian values—Friendship, Trust, Peace, Koinonia, Compassion, and Creation—are chosen by our children and shape how we interact, learn, and grow together. As Ofsted (2024) noted, "Pupils are happy and enjoy each day spent in this small, friendly, and nurturing school. They are greeted warmly by staff each morning with a welcoming smile.” Here at Shap, we take pride in our: Strong Partnerships: We work closely with our local church, families, and the wider community, creating a supportive environment in which every child can thrive. Broad and Enriching Curriculum: Our curriculum is carefully designed and structured to inspire curiosity and achievement, with exciting opportunities such as theatre trips, farm visits, and residential trips to cultural landmarks, helping broaden our children's horizons. Inclusive Approach: We celebrate each child’s unique potential. Our skilled staff identify and support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), ensuring they too can flourish alongside their peers. Commitment to Growth and Character: Through a range of leadership roles, such as school councillors and play leaders, our pupils develop valuable life skills and learn to contribute meaningfully to both the school and the world beyond. Our mission is to nurture each child’s gifts and character, empowering them to "soar" and experience life in all its fullness. We invite you to visit our school and experience firsthand the welcoming, joyful environment we are proud to offer.
